This reads like the opening salvo toward denying banking services to immigrants

Once the banks are no longer accessible, this gov’t will find other ways to “de-platform” immigrants

Day-to-day life will become increasingly untenable with segregated services

A reminder that, at any point now, Tina Kotek could activate the Oregon National Guard to do some good in another part of the state, ideally multiple hours from Portland

Nathan Vasquez does not consider himself an ICE agent watchdog. But he did win the DA seat on a “tough on crime” platform. As federal officials flout the law and hurt Portlanders, attention is turning to the DA to hold them to account.

College hoops rocks because you really never know what a random night will deliver.

Portland just upset sixth-ranked Gonzaga 87-80 to beat the Bulldogs for the first time in 12 years. Portland's biggest win EVER. 22.5-point underdogs. Upset of the year? Portland ranks 345th in experience at KenPom!

All newspaper closures are devastating; this one, quadruply so. The Skanner offered a lot to Portland’s media landscape.

A 50-year pillar of Portland media known for reporting on policy impacts in undercovered areas — and one of the state’s only Black-owned news outlets — is shutting down.
One of Oregon’s few Black-owned publications shutters as newsrooms across the state shrink

This is how Sen. Ron Wyden clues the public into activity that he finds extremely alarming. He does a press release about a letter he sent to the director of the CIA that basically says, 'I want to make sure you saw the classified letter I sent early today.' www.wyden.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

Literally just yesterday I remarked to a colleague that this administration is creating a generation of ACCs who don't have a clue how to win cases where the forum isn't stacked massively in their favor. Yeah it must suck to go to real court and be expected to make real arguments with real evidence.
If this is true, I have less than zero sympathy for her.

once again these things boil down to “is your group a bohemian cultural identity” or “is your group actually trying to do things?” and the key tell is whether your activity centers on policing of in-group behavior or whether it centers on, again, tangible goals

Southern Oregon has tried nothing on housing for three decades and is all out of ideas

Over the next 20 years, a state housing analysis estimates that several cities in Southern Oregon will need to add thousands more housing units to meet growing demand. Officials in some of those cities say it's not possible.
Southern Oregon cities push back on state housing goals
The Oregon Housing Needs Analysis says to keep up with demand, Ashland needs to build more than 3,500 new housing units in the next 20 years. In Medford, the need is even greater at nearly 21,000 units.

Oregon Democrats have three goals for the legislative short session:

1. Reclaim state money that would otherwise go into Donald Trump’s bank account
2. Get Oregon Republicans to walk out again
3. Stop ICE and others from kidnapping Oregon residents and punishing those who let the practice continue
