i think powell's response here is a demonstration of the folly of the idea that democratic accountability requires presidential control. what if the president is not acting in the public interest? you want independent agencies to be able to push back and pursue their *congressional mandate*

Not an exaggeration at all to say that the feeling in Minneapolis is that the entire metro area is being treated as occupied territory by federal agents. Impossible to overstate how overwhelmingly people here do not like it. This does not feel sustainable.

Democrats should demand the dismantling of ICE, congressional hearings into its operations and prosecution of its worst offenders, but at the VERY least they must refuse to spend our tax money to fund these masked goons who are terrorizing our communities.
I think it is probably a bad idea to put clearly unhinged, angry psychopaths in federal law enforcement positions.

It's nothing everyone doesn't already know, but ICE/CBP guys know they can do whatever they want. They're the absolute dregs of the Violence Worker Community, not trained for anything like what they're doing, out of their depth, all that.
