People are always surprised to learn how little creators actually own in comics, games, etc. Big corporate brands are usually built on a work-for-hire model, meaning creators get paid once and then the *company* owns their ideas forever. This is why independent/creator-owned work is so important.
Miles Morales co-creator Sara Pichelli says she does not get any royalties from the ‘Spider-Verse’ films, Insomniac games, or merch

Honestly this is part of what did me in with my former profession.
there's a parallel between nonprofit world and academia, where there's a constant tide of idealistic, hopeful people coming in the door, and the people on top are able to lever that commitment to The Cause to extract from them in a way that's harder when everyone's just there to make a buck

The arts are the front line of the resistance to fascism. It is not an accident that AI is being deployed by tech bros, who are overwhelmingly aligned with fascists, to discredit and devalue arts and artists.

I missed that Mackenzie Scott gave $50m to Cal State East Bay. That’s where I earned my undergrad degree, and where I had classes with some of my best teachers ever. Very cool she did this.

Realized I don't know how I pronounce it if I talk about halving a recipe. Does it sound like "haffing," "having" or "halving" (rhymes with, I dunno, salving)? I feel like I use them in free variation? What do you say?

It only took four of us making a two-minute public comment about the library at the city council meeting for the councilors to restore the funding the mayor’s office had cut.
I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

this this this this this

we do it because we must and for all the pain and difficulty (and sometimes, suffering) it can bring, we truly LOVE IT and every single thing we make means something to us

because it came from us and it is part of us
This is something about "AI" that I have a hard time putting into words, but creators just love the WORK. It's just fun. Even when it's hard. All the thinking, and all the detail work, and all the struggle, it makes the things we make, I don't know... have weight and value for us.
If the writer’s eyes light up when asked, “why did the character do that?” then it’s real.

Why on earth would you want to give up part of the fun part of screenwriting to a machine? Screenwriters have something far superior to AI - it’s called your imagination. If it was meant to be easy everyone would be doing it. Tough but fun is cool. #ScriptSkyUK #ScriptSky

How the hell can you call yourself a writer when you outsource the thinking and dreaming part to uppity spellcheck?
