When I was a kid, cartoons did older movie references constantly and I liked it. EEK! THE CAT, SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH, and ANIMANIACS did Apocalypse Now parodies to name a few. I didn't quite get the references BUT I thought they were funny and it became even funnier when I saw the movie.
