I know there's a lot of other massive problems with "AI," but as a techie and a PC builder I am GODDAMNED FUCKING SICK of some stupid hype bubble designed to fleece investors and nothing else ruining my hobby.

Your crypto shit took all the video cards. Your "AI" took GPUs *and* RAM.

Fuck you all.

Measles measles everywhere.

RFK Jr. should be launching massive vaccination campaigns but instead I suspect he’s going to rebrand measles as freedom rashes.
Over 250 people quarantined in South Carolina as measles outbreak rages
16 cases are linked to a church, which followed exposures at four schools last week.

Constantly reminded how Lewis Black says he knew how there was a housing bubble collapse coming when the value of his neighbor's house shot up $600,000 because they added a gazebo.
At this point, when the “AI” bubble pops it’ll take Disney, several social media and tech companies, legacy news media, and most of the rotted-out federal government with it. The collapse is going to be rather epic.

JFC I just….

That money could have gone to real human animators. Real people, with real skills and real fucking bills.

But no, gonna throw more money into the bottomless plagiarism pit.
BREAKING: Disney is making a $1 billion investment in OpenAI, and will allow its iconic characters to be on the company's Sora AI video generator.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara apologies to the US citizen who was brutally detained by ICE.

“This is embarrassing”.

ICE is embarrassing America.

That’s why tourist revenue is down.

That’s why people don’t want to visit.

That’s why there’s boycotts.

It’s an embarrassment & a danger.

A bit inconvenient for potential alien life forms if they’re constantly being incinerated by their own suns
For the first time, astronomers have detected a coronal mass ejection from a star other than our Sun, and it was a big one – powerful enough to strip the atmosphere from nearby planets. That's bad news for the search for extraterrestrial life. Here's why: physicsworld.com/a/astronomer... 🧪⚛️🔭

They desperately want you to remember that daughters are the property of their fathers, even when we become their sons. The misogyny runs DEEP. None of this attitude towards trans men is possible without it, and is pure entitlement to his trans son's life and body

Something I have to reiterate is that you are being straight up lied to about trans people and our healthcare on an unfathomable scale, this instance reporting is already being torn to shreds by other people commenting, but the frequency of this kind of reporting is astonishing, it's neverending.
You might think from the headline that this is a story about a trans kid suffering medical consequences from a large drug dose but nope! It is just an interview with an estranged father who is angry that his child happily transitioned.

Also this comparison shopping idea is ridiculous. A ridiculous part of my husband’s job is convincing someone at his hospital or another one that they should admit his patient into their service and then arguing with three people and forcing them to talk to each other so one of them finally agrees.
Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."

This morning, in the largest expansion yet, hundreds of new union baristas are walking off the job in 34 cities.

That means there are now:
🗣️ 3,800 baristas
☕️ across 180 stores
📍 in over 130 cities
on an open-ended ULP strike!

We’re 👏 only 👏 getting 👏 stronger
As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

It’s not leadership, it’s followshit, and the shit they are following is coming from RFK Jr.
In addition to attacking vaccines, our cowardly medical establishment is failing to promote them as measles and pertussis spread.

Could you imagine Prasad, Makary, Hoeg, or Bhattacharya cutting a PSA for the MMR?

They are failing at the most basic part of leadership.

I can’t say too often: we know how this plays out because we’ve seen it before.

Anti-vax wins equal dead kids and grownups (but especially kids).

Yes, do everything you can to protect yourself and those you love. But this is a society problem, not one individuals can ”win” on their own.

A finished thread on how to deal with the fact that publishing sucks right now and December feels like a dead zone.
C'mere, pookie. We need to talk about how now is a difficult time for lots of people in publishing. Not just bc--*waves arms*--but bc we're seeing Best of the Year lists and Award Eligibility posts, and bc the last book deals of the year are being announced while sub times are longer than ever. 1/
