Imagine if people with ten times the power of these pyjama-clad mom and dads had a tenth of their courage (and anger). The Trump regime wouldn’t have stood a chance.
Ah, locals mention the federal court order here, which also requires agents to wear some identification.

Also, quite an image in here: masked, fully-geared-out DHS agents getting screamed at in a residential neighborhood by some dude who is barefoot and in pajama pants.

"Such is their fear of jail, bankruptcy or reprisal, that most people I spoke to insisted on anonymity. This was in spite of the fact that many of the same people said Trump would only be restrained by powerful voices standing up to him." My Weekend FT essay. Please read it. on.ft.com/4hqblpr

⚡️ Poland warns Putin's flight to Hungary for Trump talks could be diverted to The Hague.

"I cannot guarantee that an independent Polish court won't order the government to escort such an aircraft down to hand (Putin) over to the court in The Hague," Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said.

Russians started a human safari in Pokrovsk too. Videos are just civilians getting slaughtered under the surveillance of a drone. This will obviously not make it to headlines but please don’t let russians kill in silence

Vil du ha litt langlesing denne helga?

Jeg har skrevet i Klassekampen og Agenda Magasin, om noe av det vi bør gjøre i møte med fascismen som er på frammarsj.

Del gjerne, så ses vi på barrikadene!!

Better yet, take pride in the opportunity to play even the smallest part in so righteous a cause as the struggle against tyranny.
/3 Worry that we're descending into totalitarianism, that we're shedding the rule of law, and that we're abandoning every American value and norm. Worry that America is showing its ass.

Worry that it's your moral obligation to stand up, even in a small way, to be counted.

Neurologically speaking, there's no such thing as 'useless' subjects or 'rip-off' degrees

Insisting we should only teach useful subjects is like saying science should only do research that gives positive results

If you honestly believe that's how anything works, *your* education was the wasted one
As opposed to Photoshop which provides no material, just a fancy paintbrush to use on pictures you already own.
You may be right. But I think it hinges on whether the model is seen as inherently a way of selling a generator of copyrighted material to the user (if you pay OpenAI you can generate endless pictures of Mickey Mouse rather than pay for a licensed Disney product).
I thought the difference was that Sora is trained on the copyrighted material itself as an input, and then basically reproduces that same material with minimal user interaction, while in Photoshop the user has to provide both the input image, apply edits, and then output it.
So he’s gone from inventor genius to glorified pornographer.

I think this is hugely important. I have done a lot of research on religion and politics for my book (about 🇬🇧) and I cannot overstate the difference between the pundits and politicians who talk aggressively
about "cultural Christianity“ and the people you meet when you actually go to church.
"People who attend church or identify with a Christian tradition are not systematically more (or less) nativist, authoritarian or populist than their secular counterparts. Conversely, people who hold nativist and authoritarian views are often also Islamophobes, and vice versa." 👏 @kai-arzheimer.com
Islamophobia in Western Europe is not driven by religiosity
Are Christians more likely to be Islamophobic than other citizens in Europe? New research finds European Islamophobia has no link to a person’s religiosity.

Yes, the way we treat what is ultimately just a company’s product as some inevitable force of nature is absolutely bizarre.
A striking thing about articles I’ve read claiming to “study the effects” of generative AI on student writing skills and consumption of information is that (1) they nearly always find the effects are negative and (2) most “conclusions” are still written assuming that we must use AI, for some reason.

Given the problem is prevalent across all of society, through all age groups, I think it would make more sense to target how social media actually works for everyone - namely algorithmic feeds and who controls them - rather than targeted user bans like this
