1/ The actual answer as to why the lib arts and general education are useful is because they make a bunch of boring (but necessary) skills fun. Do you want to take a class that's just writing emails, or would you rather write some personal/topical essays?
No one quite knows why college works to get graduates higher wages, but somehow it does. Boot camps and others have tried to unbundle college to get rid of the useless waste and just keep the productive parts and no one has quite found a superior substitute despite many trying their best 1/2
The professor indicates that he doesn't think the point of education is vocational training and then asks students to trust that professors are designing their curriculum to maximize vocational training. Come on!

Sinking a ship and then killing the survivors is literally a textbook example and definition example of a war crime and should be treated as such
Never forget that when the Nazis sunk the SS Peleus and then killed the shipwrecked survivors, it was treated as a war crime and prosecuted as such after the war.
The Peleus War Crimes Trial
After sinking the Greek steamer Peleus in 1944, the captain ordered his crew to attack the survivors, three sailors survived and faced their attackers in a war crime trial.

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

When I ask them: "What are you reading? What are you watching? What are you listening to?" Often, the answer is: nothing. Which has a direct effect on their over-use of prompts and AI, because they can't think of ideas, because they are literally not engaging with a single figurative thing.

This article premise is a hell of a way to blame enshittification and the govenrment-and-billionaire-led economic crisis on everyday people who just want to be able to pay for food and heat.
This will never be me - I bought an M4 Mac Air just before my book tour - but I think the premise of "device hoarding" here is ridiculous. With every major purchase, buy as well as you can and then use that thing until you can't use it any more. That's just sensible.
