"A minimum increase is necessary so councils can continue to provide essential services like rubbish collection, council roads maintenance and the management of parks and libraries."

We are paying more for worse ferries

A $596m deal on top of the $300m contract break we had on two better ferries for $550m

iRex was slated to cost about $2bn for 100 year infrastructure
A $600 million deal with a Chinese shipyard will bring the cost of replacing the Interislander ferries to $1.86b. How does this stack up with the cancelled iRex project?

Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death

Except they didn't. They just felt safe enough to report them.

If your staff aren't flagging problems, it's not because everything's fine. It's because they don't feel safe speaking up.

Asset sales come up because National's ideologies are not affordable so they can't and won't keep to a budget.
The question of asset sales seens to arise three or four years after tax cuts.

2010: tax cuts
2014: partial asset sale of powercos & AirNZ

2024: tax cuts
2026/27: asset sales? (If Nats win next year)

The reason is blindingly obvious: tax cuts means less tax revenue.Nats have to make up shortfall.
