I write words. Some of them are good.

Sci-fantasy tales with Norsey bits and whatever I post on my blog.

Ever see that story prompt about somebody being chased into a library and asking for sanctuary?

yeah me too. And I happened to be working on something with blind librarian Alyssa Leeds and her guide wolf, Fenrisulfr.

So here's how it went down in a timely tale.

Sanctuary
Every librarian hopes to provide a safe place for learning and community, but my guide wolf might have other ideas while there’s Nazis...

Had a good time at Steampunk November.

A bit warm though.

Saw friends we only see at this show. Made new ones.

A weekend well spent.

A rock flew up and hit hard. Got tiny glass shards on my dash.

Not a good start to our trip

If someone is not old enough to vote, they are not old enough to have sex with.

Hell, they literally cannot vote to set the age of consent.

two poems transcribed to my Book of Only Poems

one I wrote last year called "Do You Not See"

and this year's "The Last Train to Yesterday"

both chockful of metaphor that I hope is obvious :)

Despite growing up in Minnesota,
I only saw an aurora once, while biking fifteen miles on country roads at midnight to get home from my summer dishwashing job.

It was greenish and wavy and on my left.

I think I got the poem finished. I'll need to transcribe it into my fancy book of poems tonight or tomorrow.

It looks cooler when I read from the fancy book (just a journal with a knotwork cover)

I've got the day off, so I'm working on this year's poem for Steampunk November's Steamdog Poetry slam.

Schedule permitting, I'll be a judge since I won last year. But most of the judges read to warm up the room.

Anywho, the poem is coming along, I just need it to fire on all cylinders.

A reminder that this anti-trans panic is 100% bullshit and exactly none of our country’s problems are related to someone expressing their gender identity and everyone who isn’t a hate-filled weirdo knows it.

Left TRF early. Hot, tired. We’d seen the stuff.

Found a gift for the wife.

Ate sausage on a stick.

Watched Sound and Fury.

Mission accomplished

It’s #FridayReads time! Let’s boost all signals. Repost this and let us know what to repost for you. I’m sharing this one because it’s very timely, helped me land an agent, was a Stoker nominee, was published in France and Italy, and it’s 30% off!

Publicly traded companies have a duty to maximize shareholder value per the law.

Why would tesla pay more to the guy who’s actions lowered share price and sales.

Fire that guy.

Friends— here it is. Updated & expanded thanks to the space afforded to me in the @therumpus.net & the guidance of the brilliant @roxanegay.bsky.social’s edits. The win centers Muslims humanity — but what does that mean in a country that rejects that?

VOICEOVER: in the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate, yet entirely opposite, groups: the police, who are afraid of sandwiches, and sandwich wielders, armed with food consisting of two pieces of bread filled with meat, cheese, and vegetables. these are their stories.

+1400 words.

Not bad for about an hour and a half of writing.

Grey or gray?

Why would I know which?

One of them is for Americans, and yes, I could look it up.

But why limit your language to only one culture?

Who cares about such a simple word’s equally correct spelling

K: We should just head to the Elfsong Tavern, have a pint, and wait for all this to blow over

W: thats not until act 3

K: this feels like a missed opportunity in game design

Good.

That’s two eps in a row of Watson season 2 that ended with Iron Maiden music.

Interesting.

Also, I love Iron Maiden

Deaf and Deaf-adjacent folks, I need some help.

I have a student who needs to hire a writing coach that specialises in helping folks who are primarily ASL speakers write in English. Where do I look to find one who is able to assist with dissertation-level academic writing? Does anyone know someone?

“I disagree with what you said, but agree with your right to say it” has not aged well.

We are here at this point in repeating history because bad actors were unchecked in lying and spreading bigotry because we refused to discern simple disagreement from abusing absolute tolerance to enact fascism

My house is shaped weird such that you can’t really see the front door from the street. So folks would walk on by on halloween even though we had the light on and decorations.

Nowadays, i setup my candy chute and sit out front.

We deal out a lot of candy

I’ve only been pulled over in three states. All of them asked for license and proof of insurance.

So why do movies/shows have the cop ask for “license and registration”

Is every script writer copying that dialog?
