If I had to diagnose the cause of the "Bluesky malaise" as @kleinman.bsky.social calls it, I would describe it as a lot of people without the skills or resources or interest in journalism or activism mistakenly believing that being performatively miserable all the time will net the same results.

Making cups of tea because my coffee machine broke.

It works as a stopgap and the tea is fine but I really want my coffee *bitch moan whine*

If we're not at war, Pete Hegseth is a murderer. If we are at war, Pete Hegseth is still a murderer. He's a murderer. And you don't need to go to The Hague to hold him accountable because there are perfectly good, American laws AGAINST MURDER.
My latest in @thenation.com
Pete Hegseth Should Be Charged With Murder
No matter how you look at the strikes on alleged “drug boats”—as acts of war or attacks on civilians—Hegseth has committed a crime and should be prosecuted.

Cyberbullying GenZers is astonishingly easy.

Their brains are truly rotted by enshittification. It's incredibly sad.

Telling another trans person who is getting on my ass for using a "gender term wrong." That the rules are stupid, they serve no purpose other than to be there for other terminally online trans people to bully other trans people, and not following those rules doesn't make me less trans.

What Shep said.

This is a wonderful, if not glorious-victory, success. Congratulations to everyone in TN-07, you swung this hideously gerrymandered district 16 points. Every inch of that work matters.

A lot of very awful people are very worried tonight, and that gives me joy.
Fucjin R+22 to R+5.6? In an off year election?? In a district gerrymandered to fuck to keep it republican?? Fuck yeah, TN07, y'all done good. Swinging a district like that 16 points is hard goddamned work so y'all go have something to eat and get some rest.

My Grad school is asking for me to "Give Back!" and for my "Generous donation!"

Bitch, you had us sitting on plastic lawn furniture while making us pay 35K a year. I hear you've now jacked it up to 50K.

I ain't giving you shit, especially since it's probably going to sexual harassment payouts.

I’ve been thinking for a while that the best thing we could do to reverse vaccine hesitancy is a brutal scare campaign of PSAs featuring footage of really sick people. Maybe also a short documentary everyone would have to watch and be scarred by in school
I'm so tired of measles.

I'm also tired of people using needle shots on stories like this.

Show what measles looks like.

a lovely thread. a really good live theatrical effect has a magic that cinema just can't reproduce
Eleven years ago, I wrote to Tom Stoppard to ask about this coup de théâtre from 1949. It took me down an unexpected rabbit hole - in memory of Stoppard, here's what I found.

when i finally got that certain giant university systems are primarily real estate and mineral rights holding companies with a football team attached, and no strong feelings about also serving as an educational institution so long as it made the right people happy, things started making more sense
I dunno man it just really seems like American universities have lost the plot over the past 30 years or so and while I too love college football and basketball, the people making key decisions at them don't seem to care about their educational mission at all
