This right to decide depends on a certain sovereignty over those who are decided on. In this way, when cis people have these discourses about trans ppl, what they're asserting is their own belonging, articulated as a right to decide on others. This one of Derrida's main points on hospitality.
Eg, Levinas posits Israel as total hospitality, but Derrida's chief point re hospitality is that as it's given and conceived, it's always limited and conditional. It always asserts itself as a limit, which is deconstructed by the absolute hospitality without limit and beyond thinking or language.

The stakes are just higher and higher for trans people now. We are under assault in every arena and this demonstrates how ready everyone is to abandon us. They are looking for the opportunity. Maybe you are too.
I’m going to throw nuance on nuance here.
Not all sincerely-held religious beliefs have a place in the marketplace of ideas. Some of them are offensive and should be called out as such.
HOWEVER, these are bad faith actors pushing these offensive ideas, with aims that must be recognized
This won’t be a popular opinion, but I don’t think the instructor was right here. The assignment said that the goal was for students to demonstrate they completed the readings *and* they could do so by reflecting on, among other things, their personal experiences. www.oudaily.com/news/ou-stat...

This is extremely bad and worrisome for obvious reasons, but it's worth pointing out that this was obviously the student's goal

She knowingly wrote a garbage essay for her trans prof's class and when she obviously got a terrible grade stirred up a media storm

This was clearly the intended outcome
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

So gross to see this as my community gets ready to be harmed directly by Shapiro's AI BS. We don't want it!

“what if they change their mind later” is never asked about cis kids going through puberty, even though they might be trans, which reveals that cis people view transness as a defect
The only truly irreversible thing a trans child is likely to do is take their own life. "What if they do something irreversible?" actually means "theyre not allowed to make a decision!"

You cant undo or reverse any decision you make, you can simply change your mind later and handle the consequences

Today is Trans Day of Remembrance. We honor and mourn the siblings who were fucking murdered this year. We do this every year.

I guarantee, these lists of beloved dead are not the only lists we remember.

We remember everyone who made us make these lists in the first place.

Today was Day Two of Customs and Border Patrol’s Charlotte Operation. Members of our Safe to Work community patrols hit the streets early this morning and observed federal agents preparing to spend their day questioning grocery shoppers.

If you want to honor her and her work, mask more places, more frequently.
Respect Alice Wong’s call here:
“When I am in public spaces and see most people unmasked either because they think the virus is a hoax, that masking is virtue signaling & a sign of weakness, aren't thinking about it, or that they simply don’t care, I feel like an expendable burden not worth saving.”
COVID Isn’t Going Anywhere. Masking Up Could Save My Life.

Just a few weeks ago a client mentioned they had returned to reading Disability Visibility as a support. Grateful for the work and the commitments from Alice and the clear love she shared with her comrades that we are witnessing today.

So many people were detained extrajudicially, were tortured, or died because of Dick Cheney. You can't get to the danger we're in now without everything he did. The weapons he helped forge are ones we need to take away from U.S. presidents forever.

I had pointed my politics obsessed 14 year old here as inspiration, not to mention what I have learned from Lex’s work and others. This is such a huge loss.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

This is a bid to create division that does not exist and I know a lot of non-trans queer folk who just will not have it. The cis queer people in my life are showing up and throwing down for trans people. These losers are the outliers. Don't listen to straight people about queer life.
🚨 1/ SCOOP We all know Pamela Paul is not a good journalist. But in her (poorly argued) WSJ screed on the alleged "growing divide" in LGBTQ circles abt trans rights, she reports ESPECIALLY badly—including abt Jose Arango & his boyfriend who dumped him.

Paul didn't talk to the boyfriend.

I did.

Just saw a video on fedbook of straight people having a pink pony club themed 40th birthday party. If this was not also a coming out event, I hate it so much. It’s truly wild how culture makers from marginalized communities can be celebrated while those communities are under threat!

It’s like taking a stack of hateful flyers you find in a neighborhood and then walking around and handing them out and adding, “Wow, did you see this? This is awful.” …But then they are still left holding the flyers YOU gave them.

Ideally money, to an existing food bank. I've seen tons of pop-up mutual aid efforts in my small city in the last week. While I applaud the desire to support neighbors in need, imagine navigating dozens of random Facebook posts and email accounts to find food when you need it. Let's make it easy.
If you can afford it, it's a good time to give a donation to your local food bank.

If judges can refuse to officiate gay weddings, gay defendants should be able to refuse to be heard by those judges. If they can’t be compelled to perform the most heteronormative of functions, why would anyone believe they are capable of putting their biases aside for something with higher stakes?

The whole Charles is on T storyline on Only Murders is just… it is wild the ways the experiences of trans life are being picked up everywhere by cis culture as we are losing.

I have been using fedbook related to some local stuff more and now I am seeing the horrible way local news is reported and a lot more transphobic stories and comments. I can see how it shapes people’s view of the world.
