It's not a binary state, and with that said: There are people who never feel like an adult, and there are people who have always felt like they had to be the adult. Neither is better than the other, nor is one always a more successful adult than the other, but you can often tell who is whom.

Was talking to a 50-something friend who said they were telling a 20-something that big secret of adults is that no one feels they're an adult.

I know this is a common saying, but I don't vibe w/it at all. Certainly not for last 10 or 15 years.

I feel very much like an exhausted, weary adult.

I tell people that the problem is not coming up with ideas, I think of a couple dozen of them a day. The real problem is knowing which of the damn things is any good for writing up. Most of them are junk. I have to let them roll around in my brain a while to find out which is which.

one of the things strangers say to me most often is "I've got a book idea for you" or "is that your next book idea" etc. and the urge to scream "IDEAS ARE CHEAP!" is so strong and I never say it because I want to live in a society where people are generally courteous etc. etc.

It's happened more than once, and a couple of times with famous sports figures who I was not aware of. I don't worry about it too much. If you're using standard spellings of names in contemporary settings, it's going to happen from time to time.
