Notice how the popular media narrative has moved on, while people on the ground in Minneapolis are still struggling and crying out that things are as bad as ever. This is how fascist regimes operate — overreach, recalibration, normalization. Get louder, not quieter.

If you're not from Chicago, you might not be aware that ICE attempted to murder a person doing ICE monitoring, long before the murders in Minneapolis. She survived being shot 5 times. She's taking them to court.

Yep. I once called and left a message calling her a Quisling. She's just so bad. It says a lot that a random Republican will be worse, though.

I just want to remind people that this whole "save food by cooking at home" thing is extremely modern. Communal kitchens, low cost diners, and push carts were very common ways of obtaining meals prior to the mid-20th century. I suspect at least some of this is an attempt to trap women in the home.

Costco rotisserie chickens are $5, and larger than the grocery store. A really really good value. Last one I bought we got 4 meals out of.

And, provided you aren't a low salt diet, it's a fast and nutritious meal. If you are working two jobs, or have too many other things to do, it's a _great_ way to get a meal or two for very little effort. Frozen or canned veggies, and you have something almost balanced, as well.

“What we’re witnessing is the express repetition of a project on the scale of the larger concentration camp systems in history—the Soviet Gulag, the Nazi concentration camps, and Chinese labor camps in the People’s Republic of China.”
When I got the contract to write a history of concentration camps in 2014, I hoped to keep the US from ending up here. That didn't work out! But now it's critical to understand how much is already in process and the enormity of what's coming. The sooner we act to stop it, the more people we'll save.

very much of a piece with the logic of family separation as a deterrent to immigration
But they’re also routinely holding people way more than 30 days after a final order and not providing adequate medical treatment.

Part of the strategy to use detention to get people to abandon claims for relief is upping the risk of death.

Police in Bloomington, MN just announced that one of the guys they arrested in an underage sex trafficking sting was a **background checker for ICE agents.**

He had a high security clearance in the Trump administration... and he was caught trying to abuse children. Sickening.

Right now Rikers Island, the physically largest jail in the entire United States, is holding under 7,000 people.

ICE's warehouse plans include detention camps which will hold between 8,500-10,000 people in buildings not designed for human habitation.

We now have confirmation that the Social Circle warehouse cost ICE $130 million, bringing the total spent on warehouses to $714 million. ICE is also reportedly planning on buying a second warehouse in Oakwood, GA and is finalizing the sale now.

Billions more will be spent on retrofitting/staffing.

I won’t support additional funding for ICE unless we put guardrails in place to make sure ICE is better trained and actually focused on making our communities safer.
