What an incredible experience, getting to perform at the Riyadh Comedy Festival. I left feeling grateful and humbled by his majesty's generosity. I'll never forget this memorial experience and all the fun we had. Hope to do it again soon.

upon further reflection, there is a small part of me that feels I sent the wrong message, regarding the Riyahd Comedy Festival last night. While, I do think it's important for comedy to have the opportunity to thrive in all parts of the globe, there are some aspects of The Royal Highness, King Salmon and his leadership in the region that i don't agree with entirely, but it's a different culture when it comes to freedom and rights and I gotta respect that we are all different and have different values. My manager is now investigating the possibility of donating some of my fee to a charity for Vetrans of War.

Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

This goes along with what I was saying earlier about Orientalism. If you treat a country and its people as a canvas onto which you can project your own fantasies… that isn’t respect, that isn’t just “liking.” That’s using a place as a medium for fantasy and that is exotification.

Or, as is becoming increasingly common, treating Asia like a canvas to project your own ideals on and insist the country is that way, a mirror of your own brain and not a real country with its own people who have their own varies opinions, is ALSO Orientalism.

I was so incredibly disappointed by how racist the literary translation community was when Han Kang won the Booker in 2016 and during Korea's early entry into COVID that I was amazed that I had further capacity to be disappointed in literary translators after Oct 7 during the genocide in Gaza
