This is the world the serious grown up moderates fought to preserve, and don't let them ever try to tell you otherwise.
The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

The thing is we've known that housing the homeless is cheaper than neglect, we've known that Ubi is effective at eliminating poverty, we've known that heavily subsidized housing and education leads people into the middle class, we've known all of these things in some cases for 70 years.
“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.

In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

Treating “Britain is too difficult, expensive and shit to live in” as a win is incredible
I'm not sure how much it is appreciated that there will be significant emigration coming. Those here on graduate visas coming to an end, the toughening up of skilled worker rules re. salaries/sponsorable roles and the 'earned settlement' changes to come. Lots of people are going to leave.

I'm old enough to remember (I'm over one year old) when we were all told to shut up about labour's left wing credentials because the renters rights and employment rights bills were on the way. how are those going lxds? how are my rights looking?

All of this “woe is me my house is now really expensive and so a tax is unfair” stuff completely negates to acknowledge the implicit fact that the house owner has made an insane profit by doing absolutely nothing

Important to remember that the British public is actively being misinformed on this issue.
New net migration figures at 930am.

Net migration fell half a million to 344,000 in 2024 from 848k in 2023

56% of people think it went up last year
17% think stayed the same
14% think it went down

2025 figure to be lower again
16% expect that
38% think it will be up

Listen all I’m saying is that I remember six little years ago when we were told that Corbyn living in a £1m house was evidence of vast wealth. I know inflation’s been wild since then but I simply do not believe that we’re now in a world where owning a property worth £2m is somehow standard

Made grimmer and more absurd in this instance by the fact that while regular Afghan people in the US and Afghanistan are being punished for the US's humiliation, a member of al-Qaeda—the supposed entire reason for the Afghanistan invasion—was just at the White House for a photo-op with Trump.

As with everything else, it’s a political rather than an economic choice to do this. Refusing to tax the very wealthy properly so that more of us can live dignified, happy lives in a state with properly functioning public services & a liveable social security system is unforgivable

If the government is right that removing this cap at a cost of around £3bn will take 450,000 children out of poverty then they should have done it on day one, and all the shite we had last year about how ‘unaffordable’ it was to do this was clearly just fucking nonsense

this must be all that 'the bbc is captured by gender ideology' that @maitlis.bsky.social, @jonsopel1.bsky.social, and @lewisgoodall.com were bravely standing up against when they helped propagate a whole bunch of dangerous medical disinformation, that has got several kids killed since, on newsnight.
the bbc changed their article from saying 'trans woman' to saying 'biological male who identifies as a woman'.

even if you don't care about trans ppl it should alarm you just how captured the bbc has become.

they will no longer even say 'trans woman'. that's not normal and shows massive bias.

So the actual bar being discussed for juryless trials seems to be anything where the sentence is less than 5 years.

Anything less than 5 years would not require a jury and could be decided by a judge in a closed room.

Worth noting that 3 years is the top number for activists generally...
