He/Him (but singular they/them is fine because English.)
Heading up to ThoughtBubble on Friday and looking forward to it as much as usual but have to admit, it is falling at a time when I am not feeling my best, emotionally or physically, this year. Not the con's fault at all but wish I went to more of them, so this feeling wasn't leaning on me so much.

Stories on BBC News - a street brawl which helpfully tells us those involved were “of Turkish origin” and another about a sex offender “Sudanese” but an extremely prolific sex offender responsible for 343 offences is not described as “white British” why is that

You know, part of me sincerely believes that if the combination of "You're The Voice" in 1986 and "Something Inside So Strong" in 1987 didn't fix everything, maybe we're just unsalvageable as a species.

Yes, "pregnant people" is inclusive language that describes pregnant cis women AS WELL AS trans men and nonbinary people, a lot of whom can get pregnant. But it also describes, like, 12-year-old girls who get pregnant. Do centrist pig-dogs think THEY are "women" too? Coz...bit of a red flag, that.

Victoria's response to kamikazi transphobe Linehan reminds us that angry men are happy to harass women in the name of (checks notes) women's rights and that if a trans woman appearing on tv sends them ballistic then this is not about women's rights, it's about the eradication of the trans community

Bill Cosby is out of jail, Louis CK sells out stadiums, even Woody Allen is being invited back into polite society. What "excesses" are these people talking about?
When people talk about the excesses of MeToo, they have to lie, because the reality is that there was no massive social reckoning forcing people to believe survivors or hold perpetrators accountable. In fact, there has been a significant backsliding and new punishments in rejection of MeToo

This wife talking about her husband becoming radicalised by Farage and those like him really is quite extraordinary in its heartbreaking understatement.

the fundamental central operating premise of this entire dominant ecosystem of what passes for the institutional "left" in this country is that you must carefully calibrate what you believe in light of what you perceive certain demographics to believe. but what wins elections is believing in shit

So fun to see the 'r' word make its way back into casual usage across the political divide.

Fills me with confidence for the world centrists/libs will try to push into existence if we survive the present moment & they get their way, with their 'politics as sport' attitude & thirty minute memories.

No it doesn't say that, no autism isn't an illness as @kathryndeplume.com below says. Where are the science journalists who actually understand results sections? Covid infection is bad full-stop but this study does not show a link to autism. And it's also damaging to the autistic community.

There has never been a time or space in the history of humanity where one could voice an opinion in public with the expectation that other people in that public space wouldn't react, either positively or negatively. I wish full grown adults would stop pretending it's somehow a modern innovation.

Not that I find this particularly surprising but might it not just means that anyone who's still right wing after over a decade of terrible conservative rule is a proper twat, whereas (inexplicably but realistically) people still falling for Trump might be a broader church?
The British right being this much more extreme rightwing than MAGA is more than alarming

Wondering this morning if the rise in modern transphobia might not actually be part of a huge conspiracy of System Admins who are furious that inadequacies in their systems around dealing with users changing their names are being exposed at a greater rate, and are pushing back.
