it is probably because they are responding to their earlier errors by taking positive action now, which helps defend their neighbors, rather than by retroactive reputation management in the Atlantic, which does not

statistically speaking (and based off the articles) it is a near certainty that thousands of people currently patrolling the streets in Minnesota are people who did not immediately believe the warnings of the left 10 years ago. I see very little criticism of *them* on here
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

The infantilisation of every person who thinks liberty and community isn't just desirable but possible and even necessary lead us to the space the world is currently in. Especially the United Kingdom.

So much GC commentary comes down to, in effect, "You'll be miserable and, if you're not, we'll make you miserable!" Or maybe even more concisely: "You'll be miserable; we'll make sure of that!"

What is going on in Graham Linehan's brain?

This is also connected to that whole thing where all their fantasies of protecting their own *family* centers on enacting violence and not, like, vaccinating their kids and making sure they're prepared for a power outage etc.

Even people they know, they only think of in terms of violence.
rightwingers see people caring about others in their community and instead of finding that inspiring they think it’s some sort of grand conspiracy because they don’t understand what it means to care for others you don’t personally know

What's making me really livid right now is thinking back to the years of commentary lecturing us that the rise of MAGA was rooted in a sense of righteous victimization by overbearing liberal elites, and sneering at those who insisted that it was fundamentally about domination and sadism all along.
They are telling us in unequivocal terms that if you show solidarity with immigrants who are in the literal crosshairs of Trump/MAGA, you're risking a death sentence.

Ever notice that there is no stage at which the human brain is sufficiently developed to withstand transness?

There are several problems with the claims being made here.

(1) The author misconstrues what an affirming approach to care consists in. It does not aim at ascertaining "fixed identities" and then insisting that persons must go down a particular path, showing "compliance" (to what?) along the way.

An interesting thread.
Unsaid: a major point of rupture was Gaza!

When the US, EU, UK, Canada and Austrailia ignored the video evidence, ignored journalists on the ground, ignored the ICJ, ignored the UN, and ignored the ICC, they took a bitg shit on the international rules-based order and flushed it down the toilet.

Such a shallow argument from Daniel. Denying marriage equality was also said to be broadly "consistent with largely uncontroversial principles of equal treatment" because, if you were gay, you could still get married; you'd just have to do it on the straight and narrow, like everyone else.
I'm going to fucking SCREAM! In the UK we've had a decade of anti-trans lawfare overturning longstanding legal protections for trans people! The lawfare has gone to the Supreme Court, while trans people have pushed for maintaining legal protections and basic access to hormones and surgery!

One of them bemoans "the slow decline of the nuclear family structure in America." Another provides services to "GC people needing a non-ideological therapist ... and anyone struggling with the impact of gender ideology in their work and personal lives."
🚩🚩🚩Massive red flags against any therapist who is actively promoting their services on the “Beyond Trans” anti-trans hate group website.

They sit alongside notorious ‘gender critical’ transphobes who aggressively lobby for the removal of trans rights!

Andy Bell: "Isn't the conclusion.. you've been too soft with the president & isn't the lesson we have to draw from what's happening now is that you have to start being tougher with him"

Keir Starmer: "I don't agree with that assessment"

There we have it. He'll do nothing.

He's angrier with Polanski for explicitly calling out the situation on BlueSky than he is with Trump for attempting to annex Greenland via a couple of Truth Social posts.
For anyone who missed it, here's a summary of Keir Starmers speech this morning: the UK govt will not stand up to Trump.

I feel like America plotting to annex Greenland while masked state goons terrorise their own communities at will should encourage British press and politicians to reflect on what happens when you act like "far right" is an unfair slur rather than a necessary descriptor of a real political position.

Somebody the other day arguing that [paraphrased] "it's important to agree with the right wing that certain of their concerns are valid, because we're losing the rhetorical battle" —no, if we're losing, it's because so-called friends keep validating fascist concerns. "We" who, motherfucker?
