I am not a lawyer and even I know this is batshit crazy behavior for one.
EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

That is a reason to celebrate!
Erg, what will a future look like...
This is interesting. Blue states are snapping up expertise let go from the federal workforce. It makes a lot of sense, but begs the question: what will a future where a federal government chock full of useless political appointees faces blue states full of real expertise?

California officials are using the government shutdown to recruit more federal workers.

"Viewpoint diversity" about whether human activity is warming the planet, or whether vaccines work, is like "viewpoint diversity" about whether the sky is blue or whether the Earth is round. It falls outside the range of good faith scientific and academic discourse.

Home again after six months living on and off in Seattle. Enjoying the quiet but missing the energy and community.
They have been lying for years. Why stop lying with only words?

one response to this (correct) observation is to say “well, the cops will attack you no matter how you dress and behave.” that’s right. images of cops and ICE beating grandmas and kids in inflatable frog costumes is a win for the opposition.
one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

MAGA Rage at “No Kings” Boils Over—and It Quickly Backfires on Trump
As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.

Happy "Anita Bryant gets a pie in the face" day!!
On this day in queer history: Oct 14, 1977

During a live TV appearance in Iowa, anti-gay activist Anita Bryant was hit with a pie in protest of her “Save Our Children” campaign. A sweet moment of queer resistance.

To be candid, I want the bubble to burst. Because it will eventually and inevitably, but the longer the current charade goes on the more our planet and communities are decimated— and the more dependent we become on the few powerful people left who control those resources.
Energy requirements for AI mean that the only way for the bubble not to burst would require companies to multiply their carbon footprint to an unimaginable degree. Right now, while AI is barely functional and mostly a novelty for the lazy, it requires so much energy that data centers rival cities.
This is a great article. I love this quote. So true!

My new protest tactic would be “therapists for justice”. Just walk up and ask ICE probing questions.

When did your dad hug you?
If you could say anything to your mom, what would it be?
When you were a kid, who was your male role model?
Do you think any woman has truly understood you?

This is the genius of the Portland protests - they make the claims of lawlessness look not just wrong, but comical
The following is REAL footage from Portland, 2025. Viewer discretion is advised.
Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska, and Hawaii, all became part of "America" AFTER Puerto Rico.
Turning Point USA announced it will host counterprogramming to the Super Bowl halftime show, called “The All American Halftime Show,” as MAGA critics have been enraged over the selection of Bad Bunny as the 2026 headliner.

Because Hampshire catered to a specific kind of audience, they were motivated in ways that a generic college audience might not be. But from my perspective, AI gives educators a necessary push to re-examine how they teach, and how to change it to better motivate students.
They would write their own detailed critique/analysis of primary material, based on how we had taught them to read and understand it. This kind of work would be almost impossible to have an AI do and have it look reasonable.
When I taught inquiry-based education at Hampshire College (way before AI) we started with getting students to understand *how* knowledge in different fields was generated, by introducing them to primary source materials, and field work.
