Minnesota still needs your attention
This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paul—an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.

"Maybe all we do is frustrate," Star said. "Give someone one more day with their daughter or their dad.

"But if you lost your dad, or you lost your daughter, you would give anything to have one more day with them. And that’s what we can do.”

Activists Are Fighting ICE Even Though It Could Get Them Killed. Here’s Why.
ICE is still trying to subjugate Minneapolis. It's still failing.

Just like people in the city want to sometimes get away from it, folks outside cities sometimes want to visit them. Transit can serve everyone, if we let it.

One problem w/ how we have to do BRT & bus priority—incrementally one corridor at a time—is they don't construct the kind of network where you can assume consistency with intersecting lines.

This is a process problem, not a mode problem, for the record.

Not building D2 tunnel was a giant mistake, preceded by not tying the Bishop Arts streetcar into the actual DART system.
Sure your downtown has problems. But at least you’re not getting ready to demolish your iconic City Hall for a billionaire‘s stadium-casino complex.

how mortifying

I got an incredible PhD education at UNC, which included teaching fellowships in Islamic studies

my mentors, in 2007-2012, were already teaching us how to manage hate mail, students reporting you, etc

I’d have left if this was the policy

which I suspect is the goal
“The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill recently rolled out a new policy that permits university officials to record classes without notifying the instructor. It’s a practice administrators have used in the past to investigate professors but have now formalized in writing.”
UNC Admin Can Now, Officially, Secretly Record Faculty
The new policy prohibits students from recording class without permission but explicitly allows administrators to surveil professors for any “lawful purpose.”

It honestly feels like they intentionally make anything surrounding transit crappy to send a signal, not because it’s cheaper

This is a lot. Most are not fired just on administrative leave while investigation pending. 😐
As ICE expands, an AP review of crimes committed by agents shows how their powers can be abused
Investigators say one immigration official abused his girlfriend for years. Another admitted he sexually abused a woman in his custody.

The FAA has issued a separate security NOTAM for Santa Teresa, New Mexico, banning all flight operations in the affected area for the same time window and altitude limits as the El Paso airspace closure, citing “special security reasons.”

Baltimore County councilman delays housing project at train station until interested parties reach compromise. One of the groups is called "No Apartments No Compromise."
Nice to see media depict this as a stall and not as responsiveness to "community."

Baltimore County needs more apartments built. One councilman’s absence may be stalling them.
Baltimore County Councilman Wade Kach said he regrets missing meetings, but added: “If I thought for one minute that I was shortchanging my constituents in my district, I would resign.”

The radical project is an attempt to preserve wildlife in one of Europe’s most light-polluted countries, but can they persuade local people they will still feel safe?

Not ideal that the options for foreign policy jobs that aren't at the State Department are mostly at the Mohammed bin-Salman Institute for Dismemberment Studies or Generic Jewish Conservative Nonprofit #078, with the remainder at the Stalin & Putin Fellatio Society.

my takeaways reading about a bunch of horrific shit in history is that the things you want are:
-to have hiding spaces
-to not let the state disarm you (small arms genuinely matter even when artillery exists)
-to maintain access the means of communication
-to build diplomatic ties with outsiders

On the one hand our grocery bill has never been higher & we're eating a lot of beans.

On the other hand we're about to pay several thousand dollars in taxes to fund secret police attacking, kidnapping, & killing people.

On the third hand I'm repaying student loans so have less money than ever.

It seems like the public health departments of cities and states have an opportunity to declare warehouses unsafe for habitation.

Any idea if this is happening anywhere?

When we get out the other side of this, we should think seriously about making signs like this permanent, like the plaques in Paris that tell you that you're standing on the exact spot where a resistance fighter was shot down by the Nazis in 1944.

Those referendums are more than winnable but instead of trusting the voters, the DART board would rather permanently disenfranchise the citizens of Dallas and forfeit any hope of a functional system

Dallas city leaders plan on meeting Wednesday to symbolically give up its majority seat on the DART board”

Oh ffs, call their bluff you idiots!
Tonight the DART board of directors has essentially incinerated any goodwill they had left with rider advocates. This is so stupid. DFW really is a hellhole of its own making.

One thing that Trump and Epstein shared: a complete obsession with 1930s ideas about eugenics, and how powerful, wealthy white men could father a new master race once provided a carefully curated set of concubines (think Lebensborn). www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Epstein couldn't stop emailing people about eugenics
In the latest files, the trafficker gives it a Silicon Valley–pilled name: "genetic altruism."
