People are reading this way wrong. Schumer detached DHS from the other five bills in return for a two week CR on the DHS bill. Now Democrats can make demands on DHS spending without having to shut down agencies covered in the other five bills. They have way more leverage to get real concessions.
People just going out here saying the literal opposite of what happened. Thune caved! Thune did! This is a cave by Thune and Senate Republicans, any possible way you cut it.

City of Others is a weird, spunky urban fantasy mystery that somehow compresses a nefarious corporation, scheming jinn, undead ducklings, wyverns, supernatural markets, and office politics into one seamless story. @bookjockeyalex.bsky.social recommends Jared Poon's Singaporean fantasy adventure:

These are conservative Ds anyway, and represent pinkish districts.

In any case that's not the only factor a lot of the "slow" Biden or Garland get blamed for was actually caused by John Roberts or other Republican appointed judges slow walking Trump's appeals in order to delay things until the election. The enemy gets a vote on whether your plans succeed.

Sanders is a useless hypocrite on his good days. Harris was a much better senator than him, and she'd have been a better president than him.

Picture it. Trump’s name plastered across Gaza like it’s a real estate project, not a humanitarian catastrophe. Paid for by other countries, while Palestinians are treated like an afterthought.

It was your job, as voters, not to elect the guy who was clearly going to do all this. You failed at that job.

It was not the democrats’ “job” to convince you. The democrats were job applicants. So were the republicans.

Your job was to hire the better applicant. You failed spectacularly.

I am also reading this right now, and it's a remarkable reflection on strategy and operations in general. Ppl need to get to know MLK the flinty-eyed political operator, not just MLK the freedom-and-equality-loving idealist.
i have been reading Tom Ricks’ “Fighting the Good War” which is a military analysis of the civil rights movement, and one thing that comes abundantly across is that movement leaders and ordinary people made it a practice to refuse to fall into despair and cynicism.

Last month, I wrote on all legislative races of 2025. There were still a few elections left in the year, however. But now, they're all done.

And so we've updated the analysis:

—Democrats flipped 25 legislative seats in 2025.
That's 21% of the 119 GOP-held seats at play.
—The GOP flipped 0.
In 2025, Democrats Flipped 21 Percent of GOP-Held Legislative Seats - Bolts
Editor’s note: The article was updated on Dec. 31 to reflect the results of three special elections held in late December, none of which resulted in a partisan flip. At... Read More

You know what would be awesome?

If a single one of these talking heads bothered to point out the Democrat's pledge not to use PACs (which voters demanded of them) is exactly WHY they can't launch national ad campaigns before the elections are officially underway.
like 75% of dem messaging right now should be “the party led by epsteins best friend is breaking into pre-k childcare centers so they can record your toddlers and put the videos on internet”
uhhh yeah I can see why these childcare properties weren't eager to let in some rando dudes asking "where are the kids?"
