There is no coherent historical legacy that directly links Athens and Rome to Christian Europe and the United States while leaving out the Islamic world. This is such ahistorical nonsense.

Pals, a favour: due to shifting research schedules we’ve got a bit of a gap in our transcription queue I’d love to fill with some video captioning, research transcription, or author dictation.

Who has transcription or captioning needs now or coming up that my team can support?
Need transcription help but unsure where to start?

Let us know how many audio minutes/hours and speakers you have, what your audio quality is like, and we'll send you an informal quote, and more information on options that might work best for your needs.

We must build are own infrastructure.
NEW:

One of the most progressive institutions in the U.S., The New School, has begun destroying its humanities departments.

They have cancelled one of their most popular classes, "Global Soccer and World Politics."

We are going to teach it anyway.

I was p confident we could get a grant to fund our upcoming biodiversity mural in Kensington. Last night, they called to say our partner school is 2 blocks outside of their service area.

But ya know what? We're gonna do it anyway.

This is such a fascinating piece about a deeply surreal bit of history: the competition the FT ran *in 1914* inviting readers to speculate about what the map of Europe would look like after the First World War was over:

The extraordinary story of when, two months into the bloody Great War, the newspaper launched an unusual competition

This duet cover of Radiohead's "Creep", between a son and his Shastriya Sangeet classically trained mother, is the mash-up I didn't know how much I needed in my life. Totally spontaneous sobbing may have taken place.

Let me just make a few little adjustments to that title…

“How a scientist with a PhD in Geology and 25 years of experience is helping lead California’s earthquake work”

Way to devalue my experience.
Wendy Bohon has built a TikTok following as an earthquake geologist. She helps lead earthquake work for the California Geological Survey.

Jaywalking in the United States is a made up "crime" that was literally a psyop campaign....

funded by automakers

because their cars were killing pedestrians

So they turned it back around on the victims. "Jay" was a negative slang at the time for someone who was a gullible rural person.
I'm not especially opposed to driverless cabs, but I'm fucked if I'm giving up my ancestral British right to cross the road anywhere if it's safe for me to do so. "Jaywalking" isn't a thing or a crime here, techbros, so your magic cars will have to learn to deal with that.
Politics London discussing driverless taxis casually referring to “jaywalking pedestrians”.

Jaywalking is not a thing in UK law.

Transport for London and Government had better not be asleep at the wheel on this.
