When the NEA was conceived after the WPA folded this could have been the mission. Instead conservatives pushed to cut funding because they didn't approve of some of the artists that won grants. (They also complained about how much the WPA cost despite it being the reason America has infrastructure)
I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.
I’m constantly astounded at the sheer level of artistic production coming out of Iceland. Novels, movies, music. Amazing.

Also applies to the anti bike lane crowd who are completely silent about that $500 million freeway lane expansion project (which won't actually help commute times at all)
Man, when drivers say they are fine with a transit fare increase because “transit users, not all taxpayers, should pay for transit”, they really don’t like it when you respond with “put tolls on the roads, because drivers, not all taxpayers, should have to pay for driving.”

I guess journalists have no responsibility for what they expose their audience to, and also never push back in interviews.

I can’t believe that we’ve come to this.

Unless they pull some kind of rabbit out of their hat, I don’t see how politicians or public health officials can turn the tide on the anti-vaccine movement.

They ignored the anti-vaxxers before COVID and then they legitimized them during COVID.

The more of these fascist atrocities I see, the more I become an immigration maximalist. Let everyone in, give everyone work permits/green cards. Make it possible to get citizenship within a few months. Make it as easy as getting a driver's license.

So if you’re an AI guy who is miffed that we loathe your product, sorry, not our problem. As the meme goes, that’s not how any of this works. Go raise another 900 trillion in funding, make everyone else love and want and PAY for you (you know you have to do this eventually!) and leave us out of it.

I’m missing out? Good, that’s what I want. You’re worried about me missing out? That’s fuckin weird, man.
