Just a reminder that the Maine primary is seven months away, there are eight other Democrats running in the primary, and filing hasn't closed. Plenty of time to review the platforms of people running, encourage someone you like to run, and/or run yourself.

Not coincidentally this is a pretty good list of Most Important Companies to Unionize.
The Boston Globe identified the companies in Massachusetts that employ the most SNAP recipients. A key stat: "In Massachusetts, 74% of working-age recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are employed, half of them full-time."

we've seen plenty of violence, including gunfire, from this set during Trump II. where it has been conspicuously and I'd argue crucially absent has been whenever they are confronted with large crowds. compared to 2020 municipal cops, they're downright docile
not to belabor the point but any idea that the DHS goons make up a force as casually violent and numerous as the SA/Brownshirts really does have to contend with the fact that they are routinely stymied by a bunch of unarmed community members, even operating in force

Weirdly enough I actually wrote my masters thesis on the naming conventions of far left parties in the U.K. These are all very distinctly post-old left. No reference to any of the most common 20th century terms: “workers”, “revolutionary”, “communist”, “socialist”, “Marxist”, or even “international”

Despite looking like random word salad it was all a very precise language. “Workers”, “revolutionary” or “international” usually denoted the Trotskyist groups, “communist” was used mainly by the pro-USSR groups, and the same but with the “(Marxist-Leninist)” suffix for the anti-revisionist fringe.

people have always felt overwhelmed by life, its the human condition. people have also consumer trashy novels for centuries (Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey is a vicious parody of Gothic lit, if she were alive today it would be a parody of Romantasy)

same thing happens with Chris Van Hollen on scale, all the centrists who get mad about Gaza being given so much attention cry about Sudan but only on the superficial level and then they don't at all acknowledge that it's Tlaib, Van Hollen, Sara Jacobs, Ilhan Omar, etc who oppose both Israel and UAE.

Yeah in other western hemisphere military news it hasn't exactly made the headlines but Marines at the embassy in Port-au-Prince have been swapping gunfire every couple of days for a while with random jabronis who decide to take a potshot at them
Additional U.S. Marines being sent to Haiti to defend the embassy from gang attacks face a grim reality: They're increasingly being targeted by American-made, military-grade firearms.

Yeah, it's absolutely vile and it's going to hurt real people.

It's extremely weak compared to what they were trying to extort earlier--and nothing compared to what they successfully did to Columbia.

But it's still enough to utterly dishonor the institution.
I didn’t want to overreact, and took time to read this. Having done so, I’m adding Northwestern to the list of places I won’t visit or speak. The concessions re: international students and gender-affirming care are not merely symbolic.
