I almost cried after I walked into Sheridan's today. I cannot imagine how the staff feel. I shopped there for almost every large meal I've made in the last 10 years, so those memories of feeding 10-150 people are also tied to the shopping there. I am really sad to lose them.

@pnwpolicyangel.bsky.social is a political force. Even when I don't agree with her she's so compelling.

Why is the situation so bad in central Africa? Do you think black people are just stupid and evil or do you think maybe some external entities imposed certain economic structures that caused these problems? Who took those profits? 🥸
Poverty is a serious issue that we care deeply about. But billionaires aren't responsible for it. The DRC has no billionaires, yet 75% of its population lives in extreme poverty.
We applaud billionaires like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet who have saved millions of lives with their charity.

Another underdiscussed issue from the Land Use committee hearing: TriMet going for the jugular against Youth Pass, preempting Youth Pass's presentation by saying it isn't feasible. I was shocked. Am I glad it's not just bike advocates that attack each other over tactical disagreements?

If anyone wants to argue (or even politely discuss) the Biking Together plan I'll be at @bikeportland.org happy hour today!

Really insightful thread here. 🧵👇
Have you ever wondered why the car lobby is always happy to respond to environmental claims, but you never hear them talk about obesity or public health? That asymmetry isn’t accidental. It’s a strategic choice about which fights they can survive.

Rose City Park seems to have an incredible density of angry people on NextDoor. @jonathanmaus.bsky.social can you confirm or deny that Bike Portland makes all the decisions for SE Portland?

Good morning! Did you catch that sunrise refraction near Mount Hood? Things you see when you aren't stuck in a multi-ton metal box. 🥰☀️🌈 #BikesAreBetter

I almost entirely avoid watching any videos of politicians but I watched this and wow does Trump really look like shit. He looks like he is about to keel over.

In case anyone needs another reason to bike- today I spotted a seal wrestling a massive salmon right off the Hawthorne Bridge in the middle of Portland! No way I would have seen this (and been able to stop and watch) if I was driving.

Hey this was my son's class! 2 years ago. Featuring a bike fleet my daughter cannot get as a 5th grader because the city only has 2 for 70k kids.

Nice review of IBR financial situation
I took a longer look at the $13.6 billion draft cost doc to try to find out:
1) How did it go up by $7.6 billion?
2) Which pieces went up the most?
3) If construction still starts this year with the bridge and ramps front-loaded, as appears to be the plan, is $5.5 billion enough to get them done?
The Interstate Bridge Replacement cost has more than doubled. Here's what's driving the increase
The $13.6 billion estimate is for the entire project, which includes not just the bridge itself but also a light rail extension and upgrades along five miles of I-5.

This doesn't include every public school field, which since the pandemic dog owners have been using as an off leash park and bathroom.
Here are all of Portland Park & Recreation’s dog off-leash areas in District 4:

• Couch Park
• Council Crest Park
• The Fields Park
• Gabriel Park
• Hillsdale Park
• Sellwood Riverfront Park
• Wallace Park

My #IBR prediction: next cost estimate will be less than $10B; someone will sue for the obvious corruption and manipulation; a cover-up will be exposed; and that's how the project will die.

Want a preview of a Newsom presidency? Look across the pond. The Tories fucked up so badly that Labour took nearly its biggest majority ever, and then Keir Starmer pissed it away by conceding every important issue to the right. Now Reform will likely sweep the next election. No thank you.

They are finally starting construction on the empty parcel right next to my elementary school and it makes me so irrationally happy. Also really enjoy asking people where we should put housing if not next to a school (some people are mad).
