Also in exciting news: I've published my little blueprint exceptions plugin on the Fab store. It lets you raise blueprint exceptions from Blueprints and CPP using Assert and Verify behaviors. With support for auto-breakpointing on errors and custom diagnostic messages

Hello indies! It's almost Thanksgaming 2025!

If you have an unknown indie project in dev or just released, please could you email me at [email protected] with the subject "THANKSGAMING 2025", and a store page and YouTube link? I'll put as many as I can on Kotaku.

Rules next. Reposts appreciated!

On consistent thing with this GenAI Hype is how many use cases can already be automated in other, better cheaper ways. But the funniest is "use AI to turn bulletpoints into email and vice versa on the other end" because you don't need any tech for that, you can just send bullet point lists
I reported a few months ago that in August Microsoft had only 8 million active paying users of Microsoft 365 Copilot. So tired of his company! Wow you’re gonna have 220 million paying subscribers, crazy, are you going to conjure a genie too? How about a dragon? Fantastical bullshit

"It is against the TOS to be talked into suicide by our LLM" is possibly the most evil tech bro thing I've ever read
Additionally, OpenAI argues its not liable because Raine, by using ChatGPT for self-harm, broke its terms of service

you know I used to say that going from 120Hz to 240Hz for monitor refresh rate wasn't super worth it, but today I had my first moment of spontaneously *noticing* my monitor had dropped to 120 Hz, likely due a change of TV/hdmi setup yesterday

This is actually really cool. This is a farmer who rescues sheep that would otherwise be culled because the can't be breezed, and donates profits to queer charities

once again a thread that underscores “the video games industry / market is a bunch of different markets shoved together in a trench coat”
One thing is that I don't think most people know how completely different the hardcore sim market is from the general games market

Doing some emergency surgery on my tiny baby build server. Fan started clanking horribly this week. But dismantling it, cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and adding some sewing machine lubricant seems to have it back on track. Fan is back in and been running for 30 mins with no bad noises so 🤞

the thing about the roblox interview is that he's more or less just saying out loud what every social media & gacha CEO has been doing for the last 10+ years. selling kids gambling with the minimal legally allowed guardrails is hot profits rn

For all the NYT is doing wrong (a lot), this is the brightest spot of real journalism I’ve seen from the outlet.

This is what every journo should be doing with Roblox and every other platform/company/exec with power.

Getting Baszucki to admit he wants kids gambling on his platform is ace work.

This game industry idea that the kids growing up today are only going to play the big live service games in the future always seemed highly dubious coming out of the same exec mouths that drove the current games industry into the ground.

First, your original games audience hasn't gone anywhere. 🧵

In gamedev, if you're using a placeholder asset, best practices involve marking it as placeholder so garishly and offensively clearly PLACEHOLDER that you can't possibly miss it. Also flagging that asset in the dev process so it can be identified quickly before the final build.
