This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

New post: a week of hectic back and forth with fire officials and city council over Berkeley street festivals brings out into the open a conflict in city halls across USA. Fire depts opposition to traffic calming and safety measures. Is there a solution?

The Fire Department vs. Traffic Safety Advocates
Street safety advocates are butting heads with fire officials. Swift fire response does not have to come at the cost of lives on the roadway.

This Thanksgiving we're thankful for:
- the staggering success of Caltrain electrification
- CA's continued funding commitment to high-speed rail
- Cancellation of the ONT Connector Tesla tunnels creating space for better transit projects in the Rancho/Ontario area.

Last year Piedmont was working on a pedestrian crossing upgrade at Grand/Linda. I was able to get involved & work with staff to upgrade it w bike left turn features as well, including a curbside waiting space & flashing beacon push button oriented to the street.

Thank you @bart.gov for the transparency here communicating exactly what happened to riders. We appreciate it.
Civic Center Station has now reopened.

Here is a photo of the damaged third rail from the earlier blown insulator.

Trains continue to run on the opposite track while crews repair the trackway.

Exciting things are happening in Seattle
"In his remarks Monday, Zahilay put the issue of housing production front-and-center as part of that ‘building’ agenda."
In announcing his 100-person transition team, King County Executive-elect Girmay Zahilay put housing issues front-and-center. He faces a short runway as the first new leader elected at the county level since 2009, and will take office on November 25.

Wow. While we wait for the few remaining ballots to be counted, we feel like we have won this race. The recent drop put us nearly 1,400 votes ahead, just under the .5 percent threshold for a mandatory recount.

At a meeting about whether we're going to build housing for young families like us. An elderly NIMBY got mad at @alanakinrich.medsky.social for 'being distracting' by breastfeeding our baby in the reserved seats in the front. In case you're wondering who they think should be part of this process.

Finally!

Clipper 2 is so important, as it will allow:

💵No-cost/reduced cost transfers between transit agencies
💳Ability to pay with credit cards or your phone
⏲️30 min grace period for BART excursion fares

Note that if you want Clipper 2 immediately you’ll need to contact Clipper in December:

Watching the red line BART train I was on earlier pull into Millbrae from Caltrain. If I hadn’t transferred between Embarcadero and 4th and King by bike, I wouldn’t have made the train I’m on and my trip would have been 15 minutes longer. Not great

it is so heartbreaking to repeatedly see our residents and visitors, especially the most vulnerable, be subject to such violence on our streets.

ElectroLink shows how electrification, level boarding and through running can speed up trips, improve access for all riders, and bind together the region. ⚡♿🚴
