We library folk do a good job talking about all the free services we offer, but I don’t see many of us talking about how libraries are one or the only places where you can use services without being advertised to.

People should take a page out of New School faculty's book and start doing forensic accounting for their own institutions using public documents
There is an absolute fucking scandal going down at The New School, wherein at appears that the university is funnelling to a MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL’S BOARD while purging faculty and staff.

This should be headline news.

Today’s clouds on the horizon created soft diffused prism where I could find green. Seeing green in the sky is normally an ominous tornado warning. In the morning or evening, it’s just magic light.

this AI push is “forced consent”. I don’t want to see it, use it, or hear it, and there’s no way to fully reject it out of most tech.

It’s making me quit streaming services and social media apps and realize they no longer fulfill their original purpose. So I guess thanks for that.

Here’s my thoughts on learning to use AI: Don’t do it. Hold out until your absolutely last. It’s designed for the dumbest people to be able to use it. Just avoid it if you can. You’re smart enough to figure it out if push comes to shove. It’s training off YOU.

remember when SEO ruined most of the internet the first time well in case you hadn't realized the internet is being ruined in new ways now trying to figure out what to put where online so people asking chatgpt for best protein powder or investment company or movie or bread brand get a certain answer
I meet adults who are frustrated by the inability of young people to google things how we did at their age, seems to be from losing touch with how it's all trash now. our lives either don't need it as often or we take for granted we gradually learned to work around slop as it festered

This is one of the reasons I want a camera separate from my iphone. The iPhone auto smooths and enhances things without me asking it to and I can’t turn it off as far as I can tell.
this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

I also feel like his body of work really disproves the persistent claim that joyful, hopeful, funny, romantic or lighthearted stories are inherently intellectually lesser and can't be Real Art
Taking a break from the sickening tragedy to focus on the beauty for a moment. Rob Reiner achieved something so rare and coveted that artists and entertainers dream of and rarely achieve: cultural permanence. How many times have you made a reference to something going to 11? Shouted "Inconceivable"?
