As Tees Valley mayor Lord Houchen's defence of his deal with local businessmen crumbles, here's the Eye's recent special report on how Britain's flagship regeneration scheme secretly turned into one of the biggest giveaways of public money on record.

Special Report: Stripped Tees
IT WAS to be the UK’s largest regeneration scheme in decades, a model for regional devolution and the flagship post-Brexit freeport. But the redevelopment of the former steelworks on the south bank of...

New level of hell unlocked. Hospital Costa Coffee full of middle-aged folk watching videos on their phones with the sound on. About 6 different videos for competing for attention amongst the other folk trying to come to terms with whatever just happened. JFC.

The ISW's update from yesterday.

The spread of these protests is pretty remarkable and clearly organic.

Let's talk about generative AI, contaminated information, and rhubarb.

Once upon a time, Europe was at war.

Food was scarce, and the government of the quote-unquote United Kingdom looked for alternatives. 1/

For every minute Britons spend on Twitter, they spend:

35 minutes on YouTube
35 minutes on Facebook/Messenger
11 minutes on Instagram
7 minutes on TikTok
5 minutes on Snapchat.

If the UK government wants to scale down on Twitter than it's really not a problem for directly reaching people.

"Welcome to Decline" -- still one of my favourite graphs from last year. In the late 1970s, Britain's economic fate very clearly split in two. How much you blame Thatcher will depend on your politics, but her leadership is useful to understand the timing. tomforth.co.uk/welcometodec...

Hope no one thinks about using the Avanti West Coast mainline service to Glasgow next week. There’s the usual engineering works and then there’s this…

It’s understandable given they’re swapping a major bridge out in just two weeks but let’s not pretend this is a viable replacement service…

IPv6 is a wonderful example of what happens if you let a disparate group of engineers try to solve all the pet problems they can think of rather than just the problems that need fixed.

Doubling the IP address size (with legacy V4 being 0.0.0.0.A.B.C.D) would have been more than fine, even now.
