I'm thankful for all the technologists, FOIA officers, parks workers, public health researchers, criminal investigators, and countless other civil servants who have kept diligently doing their jobs under extreme duress. This year has been bad but it could have been so, so much worse.

Archivist Q: is there such a thing as a series that is arranged intellectually AND physically? I can't square it. Like, sure you can put it physically in alpha order but if you end up adding to the series, phys arrangement is out the window

The "DOGE is gone" articles are clickbait but this one gets it closer to the truth: DOGE is not gone, it just claims to have "no centralized leadership" anymore -- in other words, its leadership is hiding in an attempt to avoid blame.
DOGE no longer has ‘centralized leadership’ under White House tech team, personnel head says
The team that was altered to house DOGE — formerly the U.S. Digital Service — is also still doing its own technology work across agencies.

I highly recommend watching this documentary.
From the new HBO documentary Thoughts & Prayers that looks into the impact of the $3 billion active shooter preparedness industry on schools and communities.

If you're not American/don't live in the US, I'm asking you to please not comment.

Oh this is extremely cute!
I love the library. My kid loves the library. We max out all our cards getting books for her every month. I am sometimes overwhelmed by the sheer volume of picture books tho and I just found out LAPL has a form you can fill out and a librarian will select 5 books for your kid and put them on hold. 😎

Spoke to @melodyschreiber.com about the only story that matters re Olivia Nuzzi--her role in elevating RFK Jr, a man who is doing and will do so much harm to global health, even for decades after he leaves this position.
I don't care about her hikes in the desert, her exile or her terrible prose.
Olivia Nuzzi wrote an entire story based on unnamed sources about Biden's decline, reinvigorating calls for him to leave the race -- and the whole time, she was working on RFK Jr.'s behalf, according to her ex-fiance. newrepublic.com/article/2035...
Olivia Nuzzi’s Real Victims
More than her fiancé, or fellow female journalists, the public will pay the price for these misdeeds. RFK Jr. will see to that.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

i love my illegal union 🥰
We @uam-umd.bsky.social won. Faculty packed town halls, talked to their colleagues and collected hundreds of petition signatures. Now UMD is coughing up $8.75m, during a deficit, to fund faculty whose research is under attack. Not enough, but a helluva thing for a union the state calls illegal.

Targeting Kelly is one of those “this is why we’ll win” moments, bc it shows how politically impetuous this admin is.

There’s clearly no adult in the room to say “wait, maybe don’t go after the charismatic war hero turned literal astronaut who ran after his wife was a victim of political violence.”
Mark Kelly: "My wife, Gabby Giffords, meeting with her constituents, shot in the head. Six people killed around her, a horrific thing. She spent six months in the hospital. We know what political violence is and we know what causes it too, The statements that Donald Trump made incites others."

This is how we know that the list of professions anger is breaking through. A big issue, that at least one person foresaw, is that it's not enough to consider a historical list of professions. You have to consider the professions that we have, currently, in 2025.
ED is feeling enough pressure about the graduate vs. professional program distinction that they put out a press release (correctly) stating that nursing was never technically classified as professional. This probably won't gain much traction with the general public.

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.
