This is a horror story.

A Florida woman who lives paycheck to paycheck was fined over $100,000 for...parking on her own grass.

A judge ruled that wasn't "excessive." The Florida Supreme Court won't hear her case.

She's not even the first. A thread.

"What [MAGA authoritarians] fear most is the plain truth of being human."

Interesting reflections. Not the main point of the piece but it's pretty astounding that MAGA figures think the anti-ICE protests are operating in Trump's political favor, as Alan shows here. Let them think that.
Megyn Kelly’s response to Billie Eilish’s anti-ICE speech at the Grammys was to tell her to shut up and “sing for me, bitch.”

MAGA can only see artists and art and something to be subjugated and controlled.

MAGA sees art as nothing more than a tool of self-aggrandizement, and artists as less than human.

can someone ask the esteemed Senator from Missouri exactly what he means by real Americans

seriously, please explain this to me, a black woman, in plain English
Sen. Eric Schmitt: "We front-loaded tens of billion of dollars for deportation efforts. There have been 200,000 people who have applied to be ICE agents in this country, so what you see is a groundswell of support among real Americans."

It is like an extra level of depressing that our country isn’t even making concentration camps, where folk can at least go outside from time to time, rather they’re just big warehouses where folks are locked in cages and sleep on concrete floors, and no one can see the cruelty inside.

An agency that has only existed since 2003, whose only role is to terrorize and intimidate brown and black folks (and the traitors who protect them), is buying 23 giant warehouses to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

I can't imagine how stupid you gotta be if you can't see the writing on the wall

1. I think most liberals are probably familiar with one part of what has become known as Wilhoit’s Law – that the true goals of the right are inequality, injustice, repression and control. This is how composer Frank Wilhoit put it in 2018:

Trump's obsession with the Kennedy Center reflects a larger delusion among the MAGA base: that they can bully people into liking them.

And they'd rather tantrum than accept this reality.

Someone said protests don’t belong in church and it took every ounce of self-censure within me not to say “Deborah you are literally a Protestant.”

This is a very powerful video from comedian Josh Johnson. Not just because what he says that's meaningful. But because it shows an emerging trend that high profile people have finally started speaking up, despite concerns it might alienate their followers.

It is time to choose sides.
