Ofelia Torres, the teenage Chicago Public Schools student whose fight against cancer while her father was detained by ICE came to represent the federal government's overreach during Operation Midway Blitz, has died. Brave young woman. I will never forget her. RIP.

Graham Norton is the greatest talk show of all time, and it sounds stupid, but whenever I feel real sad I go and watch the clip shows and laugh.

Highly recommend if you're feeling down.

Franzi Schimmer captured this Grizzly bear in Brooks Falls, Alaska just floating along, tippy-tapping down the river, browsing the salmon.

Prior to hibernation, up to 40% of a bear's body mass is fat, which is less dense than water (~0.9 g/cm^2), so the murder-monster is also a floaty-boaty.

Measles is a bellwether. Because it’s the most contagious vaccine-preventable disease, when vaccination rates drop, it’s the first to start spreading.

Now we’ve got mumps rolling up.

Expect more.

This is just the beginning of RFK Jr.’s successful infectious disease reintroduction plan.

I read this recently and even tho it covers the postwar period, some chapters are just listings of atrocity after atrocity
I’m reading a book a month this year and I finished this one on the last day of January!

A good but difficult read that elaborated on many things I’ve learned over the years. It highlighted how ambitious the goals of Reconstruction were and just how brutal the backlash that betrayed it could be.

This shit is directly out of Octavia Butler's books.

They are such an incredibly hard read but the more than comes from this US administration, the more I'm convinced parts of it are being used as a framework for exactly what they are aiming for.
Physically incapable of analyzing politics outside of this insipid frame.

good thing most people aren’t running around repeatedly getting an oncogenic virus because the government convinced them it’s nbd
Crushing the mRNA industry in the US also probably destroys a bunch of cures for various cancers just as an FYI.

We had a horrific mass shooting in my province the other day at a highschool.
This is not the norm. This doesn't happen here.
The vigil held tonight is worth watching.
Now I just want to see some action taken in terms of better mental health supports for people. I want actions behind these words.

Mark Carney said that Canada is "considering" sending aid to Cuba.

Before COVID, one million Canadians visited Cuba every year. Their convertavle peso is pegged to the Canadian Dollar. I argue that we need to send fuel and supplies ASAP, regardless of Trump.

The last season of stranger things was like this and I'm noticing it more and more in new shows. Infuriating.
I don't need to be spoon fed the plot or what happened in the last episode, oh my gooooood. It's made me quit a few shows recently.
There are some shows I have given up on because of the constant constant re-stating of exposition. Exposition is a thing that is definitely needed in normal amounts. The amounts being demanded right now by executives at some streamers is excessive & annoying & has killed my interest in some shows
