i'll go a step further and say that ideally, a tightly designed game *self-destructs* if you try to disregard some part of the rules. if a part of the rules is disregardable, the writer should have rewritten or cut it, and the game is shit

whenever I think "short dev cycle and cheap" I think about the guy who liked a short, cheap game I made and attempted to convince me to take my ideas and do LOTS of that for multiple revenue streams

I'm not gonna interact with that big post but I always thought "AAA needs to cut the budgets and start making more, cheaper games" was more about trying to get the single-A smaller franchises back over Fixing The Entire Industry. It's shorthand for "man what if the franchises I like released games"
