I say this to say: intellectual property law is the biggest sham in history it slaughtered millions during covid, it upholds the worst of the worst industry and silos important knowledge from the general public. Abolition of IP is as important as “seize my the means of production”

There are some things that thus must be destroyed. Prisons don’t exist without violence and coercion. Fire to them. Cops don’t exist without violence or coercion. Completely abolish them. Education of course can exist without violence or coercion. In fact it *works better*

Something I am continuously drawn to in the concept of abolition is something I learned from “gender abolition”. Which is to say abolition is removing violence and coercion. You don’t want to coercively say “no more gender” that’s a TERF thing. But you abolish the violent coercion of gender.

It’s no different than the way rapists use rape jokes both to show other rapists they have a possible ally in class solidarity but also to reinforce hierarchies of gender that some people (women, trans people) are raped and that cis men like him do the raping as a form of gender policing

this is why julian responds by calling his critics things like "puritans, hormonal baby gays," etc--he's using phrases (often appropriated from kink, trans, & queer speech communities of which he is not a member) that signify "outgroup, Other" and signaling himself to be part of the "ingroup."
because that's what the fight is over, it's over the window of acceptable discourse and whether "cool funny edgelord guy who sexually harasses women 'as a dunk'" is part of the in group or outgroup. or whether "shrill feminist bitches" are the outgroup instead etc

You don't need as much "welfare" when more income goes to the workers who produce wealth in the first place, instead of to unearned rents for the wealthy.
The inequality gap between the US and Europe doesn't result from the latter’s welfare states, which are in fact funded by more regressive systems of indirect taxation. Rather, the key to higher levels of equality is a more egalitarian distribution of pretax market incomes

The Left Needs to Rethink How It Understands Inequality
The 21st-century left has often argued that the solution to rampant inequality is income redistribution. But this may not be a silver bullet. What workers need is power over employers and the market.

The tl;dr on this is that you should absolutely block

fascinating that "no, the computer is not alive" and "yes, it's questionable to gleefully say anti-computer phrases modeled after racial slurs" are two thoughts people are struggling to reconcile

I think the elite liberal instinct to valorize Charlie Kirk based on the idea that he somehow supported the liberal ideal of free speech makes it clear how important the anarchist idea of unity of means and ends is.

We’re Walling Off The Open Internet To Stop AI—And It May End Up Breaking Everything Else
A longtime open internet activist recently asked me whether I'd reversed my position on internet openness and copyright because of AI. The question caught me off guard—until I realized what he was seeing. Across the tech policy world, people who spent decades fighting for an open, accessible internet are now cheering as that same internet gets locked down, walled off, and restricted.

If you think fundamental human rights are an area where we have to "respect the democratic will of the public," you have sold your soul to the devil. You have a weathervane where your moral compass should be.

Here's Rudolf Rocker on how lesser evilism helped pave the way for Hitler. Keep in mind, this is from 1937. He follows this saying, “Democratic countries have learned nothing from this example and are now traveling with fatalistic submissiveness along the same path.”

There's more beauty in this world than I'll ever see

There's more amazing people than I'll ever meet

There's more art than I'll ever experience

There's more stories than I'll ever tell

And there is no good purpose to immortality?

Fucker, I want more life.
an end to death would mean an end to all human liberty forever. the only purpose of immortality is to create a permanent ruling class who will lord over the rest of us as cattle and functionally as gods.

Okay, so if death is so good why are you choosing to still be alive right now?

It's plainly obvious that if true immortality existed the actual moral obligation would be to share it with everyone, not destroy it out of a misguided sense of ressentiment

People prefer being alive. That's why we understand murder to be wrong.

It is actually our moral responsibility to fully open source and spread true immortality tech everywhere if it is ever invented so deathists like Evans can no longer take it away (and so it isn't just dominated by a few billionaires but actually benefits everyone).
like 70% of the worst evil being perpetrated in the world right now is caused by rich men trying to avoid death. this is their underlying hope for AI, and genetic engineering.

if true immortality ever existed we would have a moral responsibility to murder the inventors and bomb their labs.
Acausal Robot God have mercy on my soul, I have backed up every piece of the claim:

“The goal of LessWrong rationality is so Eliezer Yudkowsky can live forever as an emulated human mind running as a process on the future superintelligent AI god computer.”

it is impossible to return to a precapitalist past. the world has been eaten up too much. in fact, it is impossible to return to the 20th century. there is no returning. there is no salvation in idealizing the past. we can only take our history with us to build a future we seek

This is why YIMBY should be a yes-and thing, not a one-note panacea. Eliminate single-family and monoculture zoning and parking minimums, yes! But combine it with community land trusts and a tax shift to land value, legalization of squats, bans on private equity "investment" in dwellings, &c.
YIMBYs: 🗣️ No taxes to fund affordable housing! They slow down production.

YIMBYs: 🗣️ No rent control on new development! It'll slow down production.

YIMBYs: 🗣️ Negotiating with developers for more affordability is NIMBYism!

YIMBYs: 😭 Why does the left call us neoliberal? We're progressive!
