I read "The Authoritarians" and that's about the author's breakdown too. 25% of population is consistently fascist (dominance-obsessed and sociopathic to the out-group), another 20% can be activated to behave like the fascists by fear-based appeals, and everyone else is normal.

To expand on this in a 'what should we do' sort of way, I think the prudent course here is for Dems to see if they can get the handful of GOP votes to force a discharge petition on a bill that affirmatively declares that military action against Denmark or Greenland would be illegal.
I was listening to @thebulwark.com's Next Level podcast today and they were thinking through the chance that Trump actually tries to seize Greenland and there was a @jvl.bsky.social sort of 'I kinda hope he does it to drop the mask entirely' and I just cannot scream loudly enough: No, You Do Not. 1/

Something to be said for historical cultural structures like the scholastic method and the idea of 3 religions, 1 country. It's ultimately, I believe, inherently harmful to produce rigid social structures of thought, even in places in need, without providing some kind of out. A safety valve eg 2/2

Speaking as a "disinterested observer", I think groups which internalize liberation theory as part of their identity are prone to these kinds of cycles of abuse and persecution. I'm not certain the cycle can be avoided without habituating the community to a contrasting alternative axis for thought1/
