👋 If you’re a new follower, this account is about showing how far WFB has to go on being a safe place to raise kids, grow old in, and everything in between. All the tropes are deserved and this account has no shame. We have a history of racial covenants, and recognize zoning is a choice. Welcome!

The @mplscargobikelibrary.com helps people replace short car trips with FREE loans of eCargo bikes.
Need to pick up groceries for a big gathering?

There’s a cargo bike for that!

We can’t wait to share this Flyer Via Pro with our members in the spring.

Another urbanist victory I’m claiming credit for. When I completed the summer camp survey, I said First Stage should include bus & bike information in addition to parking information. Well well well, look what’s in our “what you need to know before the show” email.

It’s important for venues to signal to its patrons that they are welcome and encouraged to stove by more sustainable modes of transportation.

Thanks @brookebikesmke.bsky.social

Keep up the good work!

Because our street design is so bad, a "medical event" somehow resulted in a car buried inside the school. Trying to put a finger on some sort of systematic failure that allows that to happen. Could have easily been a mass casualty event on any other day. www.wmtv15news.com/2025/11/26/c...

The things we destroy so that we can drive fast--I'm not giving thanks for this. Life at the speed of cars is unbearable.
Don't know details on the 1890s Swinford Townhomes, but they were saved in 1980 so there's gotta be cool Heritage Preservation reports at city hall. Before I-394 destroyed the neighborhood, Hawthorne Park and the Hastings Hotel were across the Street. Oh and ofcourse there was a streetcar line.

It’s really not very complicated. You can buy studded tires for the price of wipers, fluid, oil change and tire rotation one time for a car. Nice infra makes biking entirely pleasant almost every day of the year.
Rode Hennepin into downtown this morning. There was some crunchy ice, a few rough spots, some annoying gusts of wind, but active clearing and studded tires made it rideable.

The elevator pitch for this whole stupid thing in WFB is “you have to get a cargo bike and commit to some amount of time refusing to use your car.” If you’re able to, you’ll need a few weeks and using that car will be the thing that seems ridiculous. It’s that fun!
My cargo ebike is my cheat code for Trader Joe's and Costco parking lots. I drove today and regretted it

Last year Piedmont was working on a pedestrian crossing upgrade at Grand/Linda. I was able to get involved & work with staff to upgrade it w bike left turn features as well, including a curbside waiting space & flashing beacon push button oriented to the street.

Rush hour traffic in Utrecht.

Sound on 🔊 if you want to experience that rush hour IS possible without the constant, deafening noise of cars overpowering people talking.

The Urban Arrow with studded tires is absolutely delightful to ride in winter.
#YYCbike report : snow on residential routes is quite packed down. It's no match for a decent set of studded winter tires. Definitely the season of keeping steady momentum to stay upright. Really wish there was better daylighting around these intersections.

Me: I want Starbucks to fail and small cafes to thrive.

Also me: NOT LIKE THAT!
After spending a few days in the car sprawl of Louisville I can see how Starbucks sales are in decline.

These little drivethrus have popped up everywhere in a matter of months

It's really hard to capture at night, but all these headlights cause your eyes to clamp down and you can't see the trail or street in front of you. By the school, it's basically impossible to see kids walking because of the intense brightness of lights. Better infra can help, but it's an arms race.

WFB needs to conduct a decade of studies to be sure this doggy is actually a good doggy
Not only do boulders ensure pedestrian islands remain for pedestrians (not cars), but they also provide a much needed place to sit.

In a world where benches and public seating are basically nonexistent, the boulders offer a welcome reprieve for dogs and humans alike!

WFB recently approved some School Zone work that was seriously degraded because of this behavior. Rather than fix geometries and slow vehicles, they widened turn radii and removed refuge islands to assist truck drivers. Absolutely incompetent and homicidal logic.

We debated this (in the context of yield signs to stop conversions) and it’s wild how many leaders (drivers, let’s be honest) happily accepted that other drivers are so irresponsible that we can only ask them to stop so many times before they start running over kids out of sheer laziness.
I have never seen any literature to back up this assertion.

Nor have I seen any acknowledgment of the primary trade-off, namely crashes occurring when one party mistakes a two-way stop control intersection for a four-way, which seems to happen quite frequently.

It turns out that when you actually build safe, beautiful places for people, nobody cares about the politics. They just show up because it’s a great place to be.

Your local engineer looks at this pile and says “we need to pull these curbs way back, until drivers stop hitting it”. Meanwhile your kids are stacked 4 deep into the grass, inches from people running red lights

It's that time of year when Americans set up quaint, walkable Christmas villages in their living rooms, dreaming of living in such a cozy place.

Meanwhile, they'll show up to city council meetings to fiercely oppose any plan that would actually build that kind of car-lite community in real life.
