That second part is what should really have Republicans spooked. This isn't just Democratic turnout differential like '23-24 specials. Their own voters are turning on Trump.
14% swing from 2024 when all is said and done? Pretty good considering just how high-profile the race became in the last week

Turnout is currently *93%* of 2022, and it's also a 14% swing from 2022 despite similar turnout levels

You don’t need to analyze it much more closely than that

this is your brain on book titles

in fact, Clash of Civilizations predicted more or less nothing about the present moment, whereas The End of History and the Last Man offers a compelling theory of why the global order seems to be spiraling
Amid the liberal internationalist optimism of the late 1990s, Samuel Huntington foresaw a world marked by continued conflict.
Samuel Huntington Is Getting His Revenge
The idea of a global “clash of civilizations” wasn’t wrong—it was just premature.

My concerns about betting on politics are in some ways deeper than those about betting on sports (more ability to unlawfully influence results and insider trade in particular), and it makes me pretty uncomfortable that the BDN is presenting "you can already bet on Maine elections!" as headline news.

To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.

Biden commuted their death sentences, so Trump retaliated by making their lives living hell, putting them in the country's most brutal prison, where they "spend 22 to 24 hours a day locked alone inside concrete cells that are smaller than a standard parking space."

Pure, pointless cruelty.

The fact that Polis didn't immediately rule this out is incredibly alarming.

If he actually caves to Trump's demand, he could be impeached.
NEW: Colorado's election clerks are increasingly upset that Gov Jared Polis (D) hasn't ruled out releasing Tina Peters to the Trump administration.

On a call today, a bipartisan group of elected clerks said Polis hasn't agreed to meet with them about their concerns.

I have to imagine Jared Golden wouldn’t appreciate Congress setting policies for the Lewiston PD. The way DC’s right to self government regularly gets trampled by Congress is crazy.
These 20 House Democrats just joined Republicans in voting to fully repeal DC's police reform laws.

Wiping off the books critical laws on use of force, transparency, and preventing violent cops from getting rehired.

They think that they should have more say over DC police than the people of DC.

Absolutely incredible; after shooting Marimar Martinez 5 times and arresting her on claims that she rammed them and pulled a gun, prosecutors have now moved to dismiss ALL criminal charges against her and her codefendant.
New: the govt has moved to dismiss its assault case against Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, two people accused of "box[ing] in" a Border Patrol vehicle in Chicago on Oct. 4.

One agent shot Martinez, with evidence presented to the court that he later bragged about in text messages.

This is funny. Gov. Greg Abbott delayed in scheduling the #TX18 special—which is taking place under the old lines—and almost certainly did so to keep a Dem seat vacant.

The court cites that still-ongoing special as proof that reverting to the old lines would not be disruptive. Oops!
