🚨urgent call for mutual aid!🚨
A close friend’s coworker (a Senegalese immigrant) was detained by ICE and they’ve quietly moved him from Washington to Texas, so we need an immigration lawyer in Texas to help release him before it’s too late!

If it weren't for bluesky, I would have gone my whole life never knowing she existed. I kind of miss that option...

At 1200 copies, that means a significant proportion were bought solely in order to write hostile reviews. Like, several percent at least.

Pity she’s on the outs with Conde Nast, I’m sure they would’ve pulled a Fox News and bought a few thousand copies like they used to do with Tucker Carlson and Bill O’Reilly.

Yeah, in 2000, Republicans said it because someone did a piece on a gay person. Now, 90% of editorial decisions are more or less directed by the editors' and writers' social media feeds.

What's really interesting to me is how this saga exemplifies the 80s-2000s conservative critique of the beltway press as being overly interested in things that only impact their own lives.

She’s the AI of political journalists, then? Worthless except to the elites who want to extract as much value as possible?

I love The Black Guy Who Tips Podcast (@rodimusprime.bsky.social), they have a segment called White People News, and this entire Olivia Nuzzi affair is like, the apotheosis of White People News.

Normal people do not know who the fuck she is. Some might faintly remember a reporter getting fired for an RFK affair but even that’s a minority.

On the other site I had a big account for my website where I covered combat sports.

When I transitioned to writing fiction guess how helpful that following was to things I actually cared about? Out of tens of thousands, maybe like six supported anything I did after lol.

dingdingding

everyone was convinced Nuzzi was an Actual Celebrity and would command attention accordingly when all people ever cared about was her ability to break news (which is now gone)

speaking as someone with a medium-sized following partly because of politics: truly, nobody cares
One of the funniest things of the social media era has been watching the entirety of western journalists fall into the trap where they think they're celebrities because people followed them on twitter for breaking news or blue wave grandmas followed them because they said 'Trump Bad.'

Nobody cares.
