Police in Bloomington, MN just announced that one of the guys they arrested in an underage sex trafficking sting was a **background checker for ICE agents.**

He had a high security clearance in the Trump administration... and he was caught trying to abuse children. Sickening.

The pronoun labeler, which was by far the most useful labeler on the site, was deleted by its creator. But thanks to @ripperoni.com there’s a new one available. I highly recommend it. It’s a great way to share your pronouns or see someone else’s pronouns at a glance.

This Super Bowl Sunday, I’d like to introduce you all to the magical curse bowls used in Upper Mesopotamia and Syria in late antiquity. Written in Mandaic (as here) or Syriac Aramaic, they trap demons who trespass on a household by sucking them in with spiraling spells to the center of the bowl.

Hope to see more from this young writer.
Hear from a DCPS 9th grader in this opinion piece:

"The trek to school on Jan. 29 and 30 included snowdrifts on curbs past our waists, unplowed streets, and buses running detours. ... Conditions were not safe for many students asked to attend class that day."
Opinion: If D.C. can’t clear all roads, it shouldn’t send students to class
Kids deserve consideration in school reopening plans, writes a Jackson-Reed High School student.

MAGA saw a Black man become president and decided they’d rather burn it all down than let it ever happen again.

There was nothing racist about Obama, he was simply Black.

Meanwhile their guy posts videos of the Obamas as monkeys during Black History Month.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

And this was just from a friggin Prius--imagine the death and destruction a driver could cause by losing control of their emotional support F-250
At least three people were killed and four others were injured on Thursday when a driver lost control of her car and rammed it into a grocery store in Los Angeles, the authorities said.

I've been a critic of NYT for two decades--sometimes as a job--but I don't have monolithic view. There are great reporters working there. Headline writers, not so much. This is actively misleading. By framing it as a question it takes a side, asserting that he wants to w/out plausible evidence.
