Interviewer: “What do you say to trans kids who are starting their transition?”

Zohran Mamdani: "We're gonna make this a city that doesn't just protect trans kids, but also celebrates and cherishes them."

Can't wait to repurpose old USSR jokes

A person walks into a shop and asks the clerk, "you don't have any meat?". The clerk responds, "no, we don't have any fish. The shop that doesn't have any meat is across the street"
America more like Russia every day. Soon we will be lining up for potatoes.

Pleasant surprise of the day: I was playing the Yeah Yeah Yeah's inimitable album "Fever To Tell" during work time today, and I noticed one of my students singing along to "Maps"

Episode 46: Sapiens

It's an ambitious goal to write the entire history of humanity in just 400 pages. It's even more ambitious to do it without reading any research.

I must not fedpost. Fedposting is the mind-killer. Fedposting is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

From this minister's op-ed: "People wanting to experience God are more likely to meet the Divine trying to shut down the Broadview, Illinois, ICE facility than we ever were in church...God does not live in our houses of worship, but...with those who are bearing the brunt of cruelty in this moment."
Oh wow @reuters.com got the photo here:

I'm halfway convinced that binder clips reproduce asexually. I keep finding them everywhere: in my pockets, in my briefcase, on my desk, etc.

A more realistic answer would be that I keep forgetting to put them away, but I think office supplies spawning more office supplies is the better story.

Bluesky suspended Sarah Kendzior today for no reason whatsoever. She just shared excerpts of her articles, which were as always incisive and not offensive at all. Hey @pfrazee.com this is super not OK. I know her- we've interacted a fair bit via chats and her work is essential.

🤞last-second Ron Johnson brain aneurysm🤞
So the Senate vote to advance the funding deal is currently 56-40. All the Democrats have voted. FOUR Republicans have not yet voted: John Cornyn, Rick Scott, Ron Johnson and Mike Lee. All of them need to vote YES to get this to 60, otherwise it fails.
