Thinking about anyone who is struggling at this time of year, including those who are grieving, remembering time past. These days, stretched out like they are, can feel particularly jarring (I remember it well) which chimes with this piece I wrote for Xmas 2021. Posting now for anyone who needs it:

Hard to read this and not feel a flare of righteous fury at the absolute cruelty that underpins the anti-trans movement.

Just diabolical to force a tiny number of girls and young women out because you've let your twitter algorithm convince you they're dangerous.

From Stoppard’s Arcadia:

Really sorry to hear this. Studying and watching Arcadia with Rufus Sewell at the National in the early nineties was the first time I saw a non-Shakespeare play live and it was formative. I much recommend Hermione Lee's fairly recent biog of him, too.
Truly a playwright for the ages. The recent staging of Rock’n’roll at the Hampstead Theatre was so good I saw it twice in a week, and cried at the end both times.

That is a factually untrue claim: the Home Office shows that the UK is fifth, getting 1/10 claims, while Germany gets 1/5 claims

2. The right and "centre" are trying to rule without liberals - they are way out over their skis
3. Reports of right wing total information control are greatly exaggerated

So the Telegraph’s “BBC bias dossier” - supposedly written by ex-BBC adviser Michael Prescott - is being used to claim there’s a rogue LGBT+ unit “censoring” gender-critical voices inside the BBC.

Let’s look at what’s actually in it. Spoiler: it’s nothing but recycled transphobic talking points!

🧵
For reference - Here’s the Telegraph article with the Prescott memo complaining about the BBC published in FULL.

Obviously, it’s an archived link which circumvents their paywall - as there’s no way I’m gonna give that transphobic rag any clicks or coin! 😣

Amazing work this!
I’d always wondered why no one had ever published a full, detailed map of the 1960s plan to turn London into a giant web of US-style urban motorways…. It turns even the politicians and designers didn’t make one at the time. It just didn’t exist. Until now.
Earlier this week I spoke to London Centric about the Ringways Map and all things unbuilt London - they’ve dedicated the whole of their latest edition to the story! substack.com/home/post/p-...
