People have historically, and rightfully, seen the evil of Guantanamo, Abu Gharib, and now CECOT for what it is, but I wish more people would also see the evil in our domestic prisons too. How we treat our most vulnerable, including prisoners, really sets the tone for our whole society.
I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

my property taxes went up 12% this year due to our school district referenda (and i’ll see similar increases the next two years). i voted for it but man it sure would be nice if some of those state taxes i also pay went to schools!
public education funding in WI is crazy. the state operates at a surplus yet refuses to allocate money to schools. districts also can’t unilaterally raise property taxes, they must put it to a vote. dozens of districts were forced to go this route and most passed. but some didn’t

what is most telling for me is how at the end jared is surprised she doesn’t want to see him anymore and thinks they agree on most stuff, despite him (and all the other men she goes out with) never asking her anything about herself. these men have no interest in women as people.
