Problem: any 'deal' you negotiate with Trump will be worthless, unless you have the power to enforce it yourself.

Remember, the 'Great Dealmaker' barely kept his word as a a businessman in the presence of a higher authority - the State.

Good luck in an anarchic system, folks.

And the Tories did most of the negotiating. Trump backed the deal in the far-off days of last year. Badenoch was a part of that Tory government. The only point of disagreement I have with Glen is that Badenoch's unseriousness is now remarkably unfunny.
This is (1) disgraceful at a moment of national danger, (2) laughably unserious and (3) deeply unwise when the President is obviously becoming incapacitated and the most unpopular person in the whole UK. Utterly disqualifying.

Clocks are ticking yet Putin is saying nothing about Venezuela as if nothing is happening.
On the one hand, he doesn't want to contradict Trump too much, on the other - what can he do, really?

We will soon see mysterious amounts of Lego and Ozempic going to the US through Poland
It doesn't seem as if Donald Trump is aware that the EU countries have a single market and are a customs union. So if you impose tariffs on Danish goods, but not on Polish goods, you can just drive the goods to Poland and send them from there, thereby bypassing the tariffs.

An utter disgrace that millions of Americans actually express support for this annexation. The latest epsiode in a long history of national shame.

Political pundit class in the United Kingdom yearns for the days when every story could be a no-facts-only-vibes "what does <latest thing> mean for the political fortunes of Boris Johnson?" blag, and actively resents the way complicated events in the outside world keep pushing them to do real work.
This intro to David Frost's Telegraph column sums up so much that is wrong with British politics.

Military theatre of the absurdist genre. Sending troops we don't have to a place that doesn't need them, in an attempt to blunt the vainglorious project of a supreme narcissist who happens to be President of the US.

3/ Some Europeans continue to put their faith in the US. American soldiers will refuse orders, American institutions will intervene, the midterms will save us, Democrats will return Greenland, and so on. The problem is that this mindset places Europe in a helpless position, with no agency of its own

Important thread, which I have to agree with. IMO it’s counter-productive w Trump to issue “strong” statements. Best to quietly (and quickly, by air) deploy a small multinational force from NATO allies as a deterrent. Light footprint, no fanfare, to raise political costs of reckless stupidity.
Few thoughts on the Greenland saga, summarized in a short thread. Some of these points have already sparked debate on X, but after Miller’s speech, I am even more convinced. 🧵Thread

1/ First and foremost, Denmark is not only a member of the EU, but also a founding member of NATO.
