Here you have two sitting presidents both claiming to not have the power to return a man they erroneously deported and detained.

All while Trump also floated sending *US citizens* to El Salvador for crimes.
BREAKING

The President of El Salvador says he will not be releasing Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

“How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States?”

The Supreme Court recently ordered the Trump administration to facilitate his return.

(Abrego-Garcia was never convicted of terrorism)

the other insane thing about these new tariff exemptions is that they exempted the machinery used to make semiconductors because that’s obviously counterproductive to re-shoring semiconductor manufacturing but have not extended that logic to ***all the other types of machinery***

Tariffs still in place:
—125% on Chinese imports
—25% on steel, aluminum and auto imports
—10% on nearly all other imports

Tariffs coming:
—On copper, lumber, semiconductor and pharma imports
—And maybe on other countries, depending on how the next 90 days go

And the S&P 500 is up 9% on the day

I’m currently employed in manufacturing. Tool and diemaker simply do not have the capacity to actually make the amount of tooling that would be necessary to reshore even like 5% of currently overseas manufacturing. We’re already at like 16 week lead times.
these people actually think like 6 months from now companies like nike are just gonna have manufacturing plants fully staffed, operational and churning out the same product at the same price and we’re just going to go back to normal, i feel like im losing my mind

The Senate just passed a resolution — 51-48 — to eliminate Trump admin tariffs on Canadian imports.

Four Republicans joined all Democrats in supporting the resolution: Mitch McConnell, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and Rand Paul.

Good day to remember that a US President has no inherent power over tariffs whatsoever. It’s not like war powers or pardons. It’s entirely delegated by Congress to deal with emergencies. GOP Congress cld modify that law tonight and bring this to a screeching halt.

In 25 years of covering national security, I’ve never seen a story like this: Senior Trump officials discussed planning for the U.S. attack on Yemen in a Signal group--and inadvertently added the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...
The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

this is the crux of the problem with Trump’s ludicrous tariff threats: they are so over the top that domestic politics in a lot of countries will prevent them from backing down from a trade war because capitulating makes them look like a vassal state

there’s no face saving available
After announcing 25% tariffs on US imports, Petro says "We have never refused to take migrants and we have made efforts to stop migration. ... But do not demand that I accept deportees from the US handcuffed and arriving on military flights. We are not anyone's colony."

The easy offramps seem gone.

I have a hypothesis that the salience of "cancel culture" shit in Western social media amongst regular people has to do with the companies in question inconsistently enforcing their terms of service and the parasocial relationship people have with content creators
a really weird thing about american social media right now is that a decade of conservative-driven hysteria about shadowbanning has set people up to not be able to, or simply unwilling to differentiate between ccp-level censorship and kafka-esque western content moderation

That a dude with a couple cameras and a plate of appetizers can make something worth $82.5 million and a media company looks at that and goes "couldn't we make even more money if we had AI do it?" tells you exactly how stupid these people are
The $82.5 million sale of "Hot Ones" studio First We Feast is part of a broader strategy at BuzzFeed to shift away from human editors, writers and content producers in favor of artificial intelligence, which result in "high-margin, tech-enabled revenue lines."
