Why are they inviting Dracula into their home
Comic-con deciding to allow GenAi imagery in the art show —giving valuable space to GenAi users to show slop right NEXT to actual artists who worked their asses off to be there— is a disgrace!

A tone deaf decision that rewards and normalizes exploitative GenAi against artists in their own spaces!

To put this in perspective: the Sepulveda Pass is where, in 2011, when they closed the 405 for work over a weekend people predicted "carmageddon."

It didn't happen and, in fact, traffic has gotten worse despite adding more traffic lanes.
LA Metro is moving forward what @benschneider.bsky.social called in 2024 "America's most exciting transit project": a 13.8-mile fully automated Sepulveda Corridor metro from the Valley to UCLA and Wilshire. Travel times end-to-end would be 18 minutes or less.

We've got 1 more Moe Tkacik banger in us before the end of the year.
It's about Marco Rubio, his scheme to appoint drug cartel bosses & their cronies atop the governments of every Latin American country in the name of fighting drug cartels, & his high school summer job working for a drug trafficker.

The Associated Press has an excellent story about how FCC boss Brendan Carr bullied a Bay Area AM radio station for the crime of reporting on local ICE activity.

facing existential collapse it immediately demoted journalists end replaced political coverage with safe public interest cack:

Six days into President Donald Trump's new administration, the San Francisco Bay-area radio station KCBS-AM and other outlets reported on local immigration raids.

"Worse, the reason the pitch had been appealing to me to begin with was likely because a large language model somewhere was remixing my own prompt asking for stories where 'health and money collide,' flattering me by sending me back what I wanted to hear."
Fascinating read on how a suspicious pitch highlighted a growing problem in freelance journalism: A flood of generative AI that even prestige publications don't catch, complete with fabricated quotes, from scammers who see opportunity in a field so many real humans are struggling to survive in.
Investigating a Possible Scammer in Journalism’s AI Era | The Local
A suspicious pitch from a freelancer led editor Nicholas Hune-Brown to dig into their past work. By the end, four publications, including The Guardian and Dwell, had removed articles from their sites.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

It's funded by an initiative which is explicitly pro-AI. I suspect that they have an anti-AI stance so that it can serve as a clean dataset for AI to train on, to prevent model collapse. A case of "don't shit where you eat".
I find it a bit amusing that this is funded through andOtherStuff, where one of the Five Pillars is "AI"

Also less amusing is the fact that Nostr is created by a Brazilian with fascist sympathies:

The Canadian DARK SHADOWS rip-off STRANGE PARADISE debuted on CBC #OTD in 1969.

All the elements were there — including a #DarkShadows producer and a few of its writers — but a U.S. syndicated run failed and the ax fell in 1970.

MAJOR NEWS: @GavinNewsom signed SB 79, my bill allowing more housing near public transit — rail, subway, rapid bus.

It’s a huge step for housing in California. It’ll create more homes, strengthen our transit systems & reduce traffic & carbon emissions.

Thank you, Governor!

I've been wondering why Dominion Voting Systems suddenly reached settlements with Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, and One America News.

Turns out, it's been purchased by a Republican-owned election tech firm that insisted on it, per Axios.

We’re building this so Marin and Sonoma don’t have to build housing right?
Caltrans has released a cross section for the ultimate (raised viaduct) version of SR-37.

Now maybe I'm just being paranoid, but if you were building a road that you planned to keep at 4 lanes wide, I don't think it would look like this.
