even aside from the casual racism this nitwit deploys, imagine how dumb you'd have to be to not understand why people might more readily protest a murder carried out by their government, for which their government is unrepentant, than than a murder by an individual.
Tricia McLaughlin on Renee Good: "I think if the individual was killed last week by an illegal alien, I don't think we would be seeing any protest."

this kind of straightforwardly tyrannical behavior from government officials isn't, of course, unknown in US history, even recently, but it's worth saying again that it fundamentally violates the US's whole system of government, which binds agents of the state and citizens alike to the rule of law
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

We are dealing with an institution modeled on slave catching and the great news is that we also have resistance models

This is a great book about the Underground Railroad in an urban environment, New York City:

You might've heard that Mpls public schools went hybrid bc so many families are in hiding. Well, a coworker just told me that today, during his kid's hybrid class, a kid's apt building was raided onscreen

When we say that surveillance is a threat to the First Amendment because it makes it so easy for police to intimidate or enact retribution on someone based on their politics--this is exactly what we mean. This is state repression done via data collection.

AOC: I want everybody to understand that the cuts to your health care are what’s paying for this. You get screwed over to pay a bunch of thugs in the street that are shooting mothers in the face.

A lot of non-Minnesotans are asking how they can help people in the Twin Cities. Here's a very easy way that will cost you absolutely nothing.

Do not vent in the replies to videos or other posts from Minnesotans.

We're all on edge, and your rageposting and doomposting isn't what we need right now.

I have to say, I'm a little frustrated, there are vast numbers of horrifying videos of ICE circulating privately right now, but a lot of paranoia about sharing them publicly on social media. Sharing is fairly low-risk and THE ONLY WAY the full scope of what's happening here will be understood.

As thousands of immigration agents arrive in Minnesota, neighbors are working together to track, distract and protest ICE. The cat-and-mouse game between activists and agents is escalating as tactics change daily.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said he was working behind the scenes to block a proposed tax on billionaires’ wealth and was committed to defeating the measure if it reached the ballot.

These peaceful observers I spoke to had ICE show up at their homes in what they see as attempts at intimidation. ICE has somehow been accessing Minnesotans' private data in likely violation of state law, according to privacy advocates.

Cancelled and they did ask me if it was about ICE and I said yes. Not the hugest traveler but I used Hilton often. Every person who calls, no matter how small their hotels counts. They will be having panicked meetings this week if the trickle turns into a flood.
It's worth your time to call Hilton to cancel your account with them. 1-800-446-6677. Here's why:

They asked me if it was because of the ICE thing. I said it was. Then they suggested I wait a couple days to see if they were going to change course.

The pressure is getting to them. Let's keep it up.

Most importantly: does anyone know which (if any) legal orgs are coordinating jail support or responses to attempted searches by private attys? I know lots of individuals doing this work, but we're going to need organized response if things escalate. I've asked in my networks, no one knows
For other lawyers in private practice in the Twin Cities: how are you making plans to help? How are making yourself *available* to help?

Personally: I have 2 trials this week, but once those are squared away I'm not taking any cases which require heavy upfront time until the occupation is over.

Another reminder that this particular guy sucks especially and we need to be especially vigilant around CBP agent Timothy Donahue.
Heads up, Twin Cities—

CBP agent Timothy Donahue was photographed outside the Whipple building yesterday. In Chicago, he was documented aggressively detaining bystanders; also involved in at least one car crash.

Most importantly, he also brandished his gun at a crowd in Evanston on 10/31.

they didn’t leak it to make the shooter look innocent, but to make the victim look guilty. not guilty of a crime. guilty of having a visibly queer wife. guilty of liberalism. guilty of opposing the regime. they don’t seek to exonerate themselves, only to demonstrate who deserves to die.
In the video that the shooter took, which I believe was leaked to be exculpatory, he appears to yell “fucking bitch” after he shoots Renee Good.
