Our federal tax dollars are being used to fund a network of government social media accounts that pump out disinformation 24/7. Even during a government shutdown. It’s definitely not essential work.

If you’re planning to protest tomorrow:

1. Thank you! Make it big. Stay peaceful.

2. Be careful. There will be people trying to agitate and stir shit up.

3. Take a buddy if you can. If not, video is your friend.

4. Have a plan to get the fuck out if it goes sideways.

Like I've been saying, why should reporters bother treating Johnson like the Speaker of the House when he's effectively disbanded the House.
It's official: Speaker Johnson just cancelled all votes in the House next week.

The next scheduled voting day is 10/27; the last time the House was in session was 9/19.

For those who want to block everyone who follows a certain account or likes or reposts a certain post, here's a powerful tool: Blockenheimer (newly reborn).

Use it thoughtfully, because as with blocklists, it's all too easy to accidentally block friends! block.alxtratrstrl.xyz/index.html

This is not a minor issue: it’s a serious threat to democracy. We’re rapidly transitioning into a world where, as long as you support the president, you can be above the law; if you’re in the opposition, you have a target on your back. Opposition can’t survive under these conditions.
I think at this point it’s fair to say that we’re no longer under the rule of law.

This morning, I was hit in the face by a baton.

I’m going to have a pretty gnarly bruise but we need to remember why this is happening: Trump and ICE are rounding up our neighbors, treating them as subhuman, and shipping them off to labor camps in foreign countries. It has to end.

A familiar face will be with the Hawkeyes for the coin toss ahead of Iowa vs. Indiana.

Dan McCarney, who played at Iowa in the 70s and was an assistant coach under Hayden Fry, will join his alma mater as an honorary captain.

I think back to how the cops roughed us up in 2018 when we protested saying this and no one cared.

And I think about how ICE routinely brutalizes and disappears and murders people now, and.

Pay attention when state violence is leveraged against liberatory protesters. Everyone else is next.

What we went through with police violence back during Abolish ICE in 2018 sucked but it was NOTHING compared to what is happening now, in terms of both severity and scale.

When a society accepts the state meeting conscience with force, the unconscionable eventually becomes the norm.

I think this is where the authoritarian case is the clearest for the press. No American president ever acted like a victory made the country a one-party state. Watergate was about hiding shit Trump now does twice in every press conference.
there's a mandate angle here too. there seems to be a belief in MAGA-land that winning the plurality in an election entitles you to entirely rewrite the rules. that has not, traditionally, been how any of this works.
sort of a parallel here with the Patel hearings. As any student will tell you, burying people in a pile of BS will only get you so far.
