One of my all-time favorite clips of Rob Reiner, from his Friars Club Roast in 2000, as he reads aloud Roger Ebert's infamous scathing review of his movie North. The man had an amazing sense of humor about himself. RIP.

He's also responsible for raising all the money that paid for bringing Hollingsworth v. Perry & even more importantly Bostic v. Schaefer, which created the circuit split that forced SCOTUS to take on Obergefell v. Hodges. The role he played in American marriage equality cannot be overstated.
The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

Rob Reiner made some great movies but he was also unafraid to speak the truth, and was one of the public voices who knew you don’t squander your platform, and only got louder about opposing evil fucks as he got older. Legend.

A crazy streak of not just hits but movies that are permanently woven into the culture. Turn it to 11. Inconceivable. I’ll have what she’s having. Wanna see a dead body?

In the hands of a lesser director…
The run that Rob Reiner went on between 1984 and 1992 is one of the most amazing hot streaks any director has ever had. Legendary stuff

Minns very clearly saying at this presser that Firearms Act reform will be happening in NSW and the details are coming.
There would be less than ten thousand people Australia wide that have a legitimate business reason to keep a firearm in their home. The vast majority of people who need firearms for work would access them through a managed armoury.

Why do we have 4 million registered firearms in Australia?

this would have been a dangerous, disgusting talking point for the coalition of even ten years ago

in 2025 its just another nail in the party's electoral coffin
Sussan Ley, touting the Antisemitism Envoy’s report, demanding that it be immediately implemented.

The plan has been emphatically rejected by the Australian Human Rights Institute,
Amnesty Internatjonal and a coalition of 9 Jewish groups.

Elon's little serfs are quite literally begging journalists to come back because every publicly available source of data shows people have fled the platform and young people won't use it.

They are literally begging regular people to come back. Don't do it! It is a website by and for actual Nazis!

That this evil act is being harnessed by the worst people is predicable and dispiriting.

As with October 7th, there's a double nausea: the pain of the victims is intolerable, while the knowledge of how their pain will be used to punish innocents by association is gut-churning.
Make it stop.

Reach out to your Jewish friends and check on them. Be willing to listen. Learn about us and our history and story, a tiny 0.2% of the world, w/o making us characters in someone else’s story. Correct people who express antisemitic ideas.

And for the next 8 days, see and enjoy our lit menorahs.

This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

The 50-year-old Bondi beach terror suspect who died was a licensed firearms holder, and had six firearms, NSW police say. Police have the six firearms from the scene yesterday. His 24yo son is in police custody in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

If anything good could come out of this evil day, it's the unhesitating bravery of Ahmed Al Ahmed, who's in hospital himself with gunshot wounds.

Nobody should be in hospital with gunshot wounds in Australia, or anywhere for that matter.

Nobody should have to bear-tackle an armed mass murderer.

This is the first night of Chanukah when we gather with loved ones and friends to light the Chanukiah. 1/4
