Sure is interesting that the article declines to mention that her appointment was opposed by the Women and Equalities Committee and the Joint Committee on Human Rights, who both wrote to Bridget Phillipson to object to her appointment. There is some good news in this but the argument that cis women can revoke a trans woman’s ability to exist in a space and segregate her any time she pleases by raising a complaint about having to share said space with her sure is awful

This is so true, we are never more than a few days away from some group or organization saying “with sadness and regret…”; sometimes even just skipping with the platitudes. It’s exhausting
What is especially galling is that, for WI and GG, this is a single decision. It's done and they can face fallout and go about their lives as if nothing happened. For trans people, there will be ANOTHER similar decision tomorrow, and the next day, ... And we're supposed to "be calm."

It's dignity and respect and regret and heavy hearts as we're told we can't play the sport and we can't join the clubs and we can't be recognized in law, not really. It's fully rejecting that trans people are meaningfully trans; it is entrenching into society and law that really it's just dress up

Degendering is still misgendering. In her quest to look impartial the judge is very much choosing to take the side of guy she also ultimately found wasn’t at fault dehumanizing the victim
They keep fucking editing the article, but it's not any better. And this addition about why the judge referred to her as "them" is like a parody of impartiality

I don't know the criminal standard specifically but Linehan did say *in court* that he was motivated by the victim's status as a trans person. If a clear statement of explicit prejudice isn't enough then you need a new standard.
