The President of the United States unilaterally levied a tax on all of us and is redistributing our taxes to a core segment of his supporters.
Trump: "I'm delighted to announce this afternoon that the US will be taking a small portion of the hundreds of billions of dollars we receive in tariffs ... and we're going to be giving and providing it to the farmers in economic assistance. We love our farmers. The farmers like me ... $12 billion"

Here's a photo of my friend and colleague, Jorge Bautista, getting shot in the face with a flashbang grenade. The ICE Agent is so afraid of Jorge (who was posing no threat) that he has wet himself. Please share this photo. Everyone needs to know what cowards ICE agents are.

Administrators at Indiana University baselessly fired the student media director and ordered the student paper to cease its print edition, so it'd sure be a shame if this excellent digital front page were to be widely shared today

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

FRIENDLY REMINDER:

Republicans control the House.

Republicans control the Senate.

Republicans control the White House.

Trump and Republicans in Congress are choosing to shutdown the government rather than help 22 million Americans afford their health insurance.

Pro-tip for faculty who are more trusting than me: any time anyone tells me to do something verbally, I always send an email to them right after saying "For my memory, just to recap our conversation a few minutes ago, you asked me to do X. Please let me know if I misunderstood." Paper👏trail👏ALWAYS!👏
This shit is happening in Florida, too, only more quietly. Deans are regularly strangling readings, grants, entire courses. They do it all verbally. No paper trail, no policies cited, just vague threats about the need to "follow the laws." Colleagues in China report less surveillance over teaching
Texas A&M’s President just removed a dean and department head from their positions after they supported a professor whose lesson on gender was challenged by a student. www.kbtx.com/2025/09/09/a...

No one should be permitted to own a weapon that has the power to kill or maim dozens of people in seconds, at the mere touch of a button. No one. The fetishization of weaponry and death is a sickness and needs to be treated as such.

Sen. Hagerty on his legal rationale for not counting undocumented immigrants in the census: "There's a constitutional interpretation I think that has been misapplied that goes back to slavery days and what portion of a person is going to be counted."

Read this letter.

And to hell with Paramount.
A government-sanctioned "truth arbiter" will soon arrive at CBS. Their role will be to ensure that journalists do not criticize this Administration or express views that conflict with its agenda.

This is a betrayal—not just of journalistic independence, but of the public trust. 🧵

I know nobody under 30 will believe me, but this is the sort of scandal that ended careers, back in the before-times. Congressional hearings, weeks worth of Nightline reports, the whole works. The press _lived_ for this stuff.
What good is being VP if you can't abuse your power to have the Army Corps of Engineers making your kayaking trip more ideal by changing the waterflow of a lake?

I do not care that you are not “surprised.” Please. You have no idea how tiresome it is when you post that something horrible, fascist, authoritarian is “not surprising.” Nothing is “surprising” anymore. But a lot of it is horrible and frightening. Let’s deal with it together.

Every American should read this ACLU lawsuit about what is happening in Los Angeles and California. It is the stuff of dystopian nightmares. This is not immigration enforcement. It is positively stuffed with videos and articles documenting racial profiling on a scale unseen since Jim Crow.

Secret police, from the dictionary:

"a police force that functions as the enforcement arm of a government's political policies and whose activities, which often include surveillance, intimidation, and physical violence as a means of suppressing dissent, are usually concealed from the public."
