🎉 BOOK BIRTHDAY 🎉

Today is THE DAY my debut SF thriller makes its way out in the world!

This is a dream I’ve held close to my heart for decades and I am so happy and grateful.

With a HUGE thank you to the large village of people who have made this possible.

New research led by @seaprinceaaron.bsky.social shows that 30 species of sharks, rays, and chimaeras are found in areas proposed for deep-sea mining, and nearly two-thirds are already threatened with extinction. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cub.2025.09.019

I relate to the second photo except it’s awfully neat and doesn’t include the pile of books on the floor next to the night stand 😂

Also, when you get your library to buy my book, it's on your library's shelves. A hundred extra people might lay eyes on it a week, in person, and pick it up on a whim. How many books that you love have you stumbled across just because you liked the cover or saw it in a library display?
Libraries purchase books. When you see a book at the library, it isn’t “free”

the library bought it.

which in turn means that the community bought it.

In other words, library books are not lost sales for authors and publishers; they’re positive sales. Active sales. Those are bought.

Really great article about @onspecmag.bsky.social in Canada's national broadcaster's website today.

Please consider nominating On Spec for a Semiprozine Hugo Award in 2026, as well as Dinana Walton for Best Editor short form.

They have done so much good for the genre.

In times of great spiritual tumult it can be helpful to revisit the old legends. Accordingly: Joe Carter's locker, jerseys from Olerud and Tony Fernandez, Molitor's WS MVP trophy, Duane Ward's glove, etc. May they visit blessings on their descendants.

This is it. We know exactly how to fix the climate crisis. We have all the technology and we know what actions we need to take. What people are hoping for is a technology that will fix everything without us having to change anything at all, and that's a fantasy. We have to do the work.
The most insanely frustrating thing about the #ClimateCrisis is how the breakthrough we so clearly need isn’t technological. It’s just a collective willingness, a determination even, to change in ways that would clearly be SO MUCH BETTER than the clear and obvious consequences of NOT changing.

As a science fiction writer/astrophysics professor I think I’m gonna need this book.
Would aliens describe the Universe the same way we do? Many physicists think "obviously, yes!", but that confidence is built on lots of untested assumptions.

My book, "Do Aliens Speak Physics?" unpacks those assumptions and makes a lot of dad jokes.

Here's what Sean Carroll thought of it:
