Sen. Ron Wyden on the Trump DOJ not producing all of the Epstein files, as required by law:

"Anything short of a full release today is a violation of the law and a continuation of this administration’s coverup on behalf of a bunch of pedophiles and sex traffickers."

because “athletic” covers only one set of skills and a long distance runner can compete with a wrester and a basketball player can go up against an skater. 🙄
Trump announces an "unprecedented four-day athletic event" with "one young man and one young woman from each state and territory"

I thought the tariffs were paying for the struggling farmers’ bailout.

Also our healthcare cash rebates.

Better raise the rates again! Liberation Day again already …
In his speech from the White House Wednesday night, President Donald Trump said that he was sending a $1,776 bonus check to U.S. troops for Christmas, indicating that tariffs were funding the payments as he tried to reassure a worried public about the health of the economy.

Ah yes the trade deficit, that thing that people famously discuss at the diner and fret about while paying bills at the kitchen table.

Re.: Stephen Miller’s grotesque immigration hypocrisy
Stephen Miller is employing state terror in service of the open goal of shifting the ethnic mix of the country. In numerous ways he's doing this at the expense of public safety.

We spent weeks reporting on Miller's real aims. Here's the result. We hope you'll read:

“Even progressive pronatalism risks ratifying the notion that women’s most important contribution to solving major social problems is to birth and raise children.”
The right likes the birth rate panic because it helps them do more misogyny. But they also like it because it tricks democrats into re-framing good progressive social policies as solutions to a problem they probably won't solve. (Partially because it doesn't exist.) newrepublic.com/article/2040...
What If Both Sides in the Birth Rate Debate Are Wrong?
The right wants to steer women away from work and toward motherhood. The left wants to provide them with more state support so it’s easier to have children. We should refuse this choice.

I live on the west coast. My friend in Maine thinks black pepper is too spicy. I kid you not. Black pepper. 🥵
the big brands do know their market demographics, and a key aspect of that is “people in California are on average a lot more interested in buying ultra spicy food than New Englanders are”

The reality, of course, is that Miller and a significant portion of Trump’s base are the ones who failed to assimilate to America’s post-WWII culture of multi-racial democracy & religious pluralism…and they are now using their power to destroy that once dominant (and still popular) American culture.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

Highly recommend this read about poverty and the true cost of life in 2025 USA

🎯 🎯 🎯

“Most of my readers will have cleared this threshold. My parents never really did, but I was born lucky … But most of my readers are now seeing this trap for their children.”
This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.

I swear, my Leftover Pie is not to be missed! Make a crust of stuffing pressed into a pie tin, brush with butter, & bake briefly to set. Arrange a variety of leftovers (recommend everything!) in bite-sized pieces, then top with gravy+cranberry sauce+a bit of cream cheese to texture. Heat & eat —yum!

Vaccines themselves are such a metaphor for how the anti-vax demographic views society. If the rest of us didn’t do our part, most of them would be doing a very different risk assessment before declining immunization. They depend on the rest of us getting vaccinated so we stay above herd immunity.

Was she “left vulnerable to exploitation” NYT or was she f’ing exploited by a group of powerful older men? Honestly this inability to correctly name child sexual abuse is gonna be the end of me I swear.
A teenager in Florida with a homeless parent wanted money for braces and ended up having sex for money with powerful men, setting off a chain of events that would have a dramatic impact on her life and help upend the political career of Representative Matt Gaetz. nyti.ms/49PSkL9
